First synthesized in Belgium in the late 1950s, fentanyl, with an analgesic potency of about 80 times that of morphine, was introduced into medical practice in the 1960s as an intravenous anesthetic under the trade name of Sublimaze. Thereafter; two other fentanyl analogues were introduced; alfentanil (Alfenta), an ultra-short (5-10 minutes) acting analgesic, and sufentanil (Sufenta), an exceptionally potent analgesic (5 to 10 times more potent than fentanyl) for use in heart surgery. Today, fentanyls are extensively used for anesthesia and analgesia. Duragesic, for example, is a fentanyl transdermal patch used in chronic pain management, and Actiq is a solid formulation of fentanyl citrate on a stick that dissolves slowly in the mouth for transmucosal absorption. Actiq is intended for opiate-tolerant individuals and is effective in treating breakthrough pain in cancer patients. Carfentanil (Wildnil) is an analogue of fentanyl with an analgesic potency 10,000 times that of morphine and is used in veterinary practice to immobilize certain large animals.

Illicit use of pharmaceutical fentanyls first appeared in the mid-1970s in the medical community and continues to be a problem in the United States. To date, over 12 different analogues of fentanyl have been produced clandestinely and identified in the U.S. drug traffic. The biological effects of the fentanyls are indistinguishable from those of heroin, with the exception that the fentanyls may be hundreds of times more potent. Fentanyls are most commonly used by intravenous administration, but like heroin, they may also be smoked or snorted.

Fentanyl has been diverted by pharmacy theft, fraudulent prescriptions and illicit distribution by patients, physicians and pharmacists. Theft has also been identified at nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. Fentanyl oral transmucosal lozenges (Actiq) are typically sold at $20-25 per unit or $450 per carton (contains 24 units) while transdermal patches (Duragesic) are sold at prices ranging from $10 to $100 per patch depending upon the dose of the unit and geographical area. There is evidence of large illegal distribution rings selling fentanyl products along with other opioid pharmaceuticals.

Drop dead and suicide packets are street terms for fentanyl products.
Robbie....it is synthetic Heroin...many many people on the PP side of the board have been addicted and it's hell to kick. Some even resorted to eating the patches once the tolerance is through the roof. It doesn't take that long either.

Can you imagine?? Bad bad stuff.....and very addictive...for us addicts....it spells RELAPSE.....

Hugs

..Cheers for the info..sounds like serious s***..the kinda thing im glad i never came across in my time of using cos im sure i would of indulged out of curiousity and probably wudda got a taste for it..maybe thats gonna take over heroin here as the number 1 choice of drug ?..im just happy to be away from all that s***..thxs again and hope all is well with ya both..enjoy ya day ;)..Robbie..
..Darin..
..In ya write up ya mentioned sublimaze..i wander if they have anything to do with making subutex or in your case suboxone ?..i know the sub part mean sublingual (under the tongue)..but just a thought if they were involved in bringing subs on the market ?..Robbie..
Robbie,
I will never forget the day my mom got her scipt for that s****.....she put one on and as it took effect she got very lost and scared because having never used drugs the feelings spooked her a great deal.....and me as well! Hmmm Robbie....maybe their is a connection between the two......will have to look into that. All is well on this side on the fence thanks for asking.....ATB!
They were mixing it in with the heroin here......I remember posting about it.....it caused alot of people to die............the news reported it here..........and BAM next thing ya heard it spreading across the States.

The first I heard of it was people eating them........and I asked about them when I was using...........and a "career heroin addict"........hate that lebel, but that's how they say........I mean a lifer this guy was..........told me in no uncertain terms "NEVER EVER mess with that Fentanyl".

Sickest of all I heard was people going into hopsital waste............and looking for the discarded patches.........now they are supposed to be flushed down the toilet I think.............my grandpop wouldn't do that........he wrapped them in duct tape..............and discarded...........there have been babies that died because somebody had fentanyl on their hands and it's that strong........and it goes right into the blood stream.........I read that somewhere.

O.K. this is going way back...........BUT.........well Two Years...........or more.....I was kind of newly clean...........my grandpop is dying...........he's on dilaudid and fentanyl patches and the "just in case liquid morphine" is in the fridge................I m going to be honest:

I changed them patches for him............I wanted to just take the patch and lick it..............lick that gel..........Blessings abound cause I had been clean........and Lord knows I would never, ever, ever want anyone is severe pain, and especially my grandpop...........BUT it crossed my mind.

I thought my entire family was right CRAZY having me go take care of my Pop when dilaudid, fentanyl, and morphine was around..............good test though.

Yeah, Robbie we actually got Blessed never delving into fentanyl.........then they got the lolipops of it............it is good however for people in severe pain so they don't have to suffer like GYAC's dear mom and my pop........and I so feel sorry for anyone on the pain pill board got addicted to that.

BTW, some people it leaves almost like scars on.........where the tape was....certain skin types...........pigments it can permanently leave marks.......girl I was roomed with in rehab...........I counted them on her back for her...........the marks they left...............she couldn't see her back obviously........and we both just sat crying as I counted.
user posted imageHARRISBURG, Pennsylvania -- A narcotic painkiller that looks like a lollipop -- designed to speed relief to cancer patients -- is starting to show up in illegal sales with the nickname "perc-a-pop."

The drug's ease of use and sweet taste have law enforcement officials worried about the potential for abuse. Actiq, a berry-flavored lozenge on a stick, contains the synthetic opioid fentanyl.

"We're starting to see it emerge as a drug that is, as we call it, 'diverted,' which is a legally prescribed drug being used illegally," said Kevin Harley, spokesman for state Attorney General Jerry Pappert.

"It's a drug that is easily administered or taken by somebody who might be afraid to either take a pill, snort or inject a needle in their arm."

The attractive taste -- described by the manufacturer as a "mild berry flavor" -- makes abuse more likely, he added. Harley said each Actiq lozenge retails for $9.10. The street value of a perc-a-pop is $20.

"We started seeing them in Philly, and that's where we understand the nickname came from," he said.

Manufactured by Cephalon Inc., Actiq's active ingredient is absorbed by rubbing the lozenge against the inside of the cheek.

It is approved by the Food and Drug Administration to combat "breakthrough pain," flare-ups suffered by cancer patients who are already taking narcotics in more conventional liquid or pill form to cope with chronic pain.

"Like any opioid, there is a potential for misuse," said company spokeswoman Stacey Backhardt. She said the company believes, however, "there has not been a substantial diversion of this product in the state or elsewhere."

Fentanyl was first introduced as an intravenous anesthetic called Sublimaze in the 1960s. Besides being taken orally, it is also dispensed as a transdermal patch under the trade name Duragesic.

Hospitals in the lower 48 states reported 576 incidents of non-medical use of fentanyl products in 2000; the number rose to 1,506 by 2002, said Leah R. Young, spokeswoman for the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
It is a blessing for me and alot of others that we got clean before ever coming into contact with this s***....because lord knows when I was using and abusing I would have without second thought used Fentanyl....or anything that resembled opiates...including H......I thank God everyday for that.

No one should have access to these drugs unless they are seriously and deathly ill.

Cheers to all my buds over here!! I hope you are all doing peachy today! I am about to get up out of the house for a Jamba Juice and down to the beach for a bit before it gets to hot and crowded!

..Mate that sounds scarey just reading about ya mum and the patches..its a shame that ya mum (god rest her soul) and others who had cancer and such other illnesses have to resort to such measures for pain relief..and then theres the addict who abuses the drug just for the high they get and takes life for granted..but i suppose thats the way of the world and we can only get thru it the best we can..but thankfully for those of us who are heroin-free we can get thru without the need for it to get us by in life..and may that long continue for each and everyone of us..good to know all is well over your side mate ;)..Robbie

..Edit to say.. i missed ya post kee kee..enjoy the beach..and remember as you soak up the rays the rain is still bouncing off me windows lol..have a good day..Robbie..
Thanks Robbie,
Her pain and struggle was mine in the same because just as she carried me through addiction I had to carry her through cancer...up close and personal on a daily basis....and it was DAM hard.....BUT she got to see her last born shine again and that is what whipes my tears when I cry about it. I dread to think of what those still suffering have to go through and hope on a daily basis for them and their freedom. Blessed are the ones who made it through and continue their struggle on a daily basis and blessed are the ones that have yet to recognize how blessed the really are....ATB bro!
..Darin..
..Even thou it was a horrible situation you were both going thru..im well happy for ya that your mother got to see you free of addiction before she passed away..and that shows the strength in ya as you could of easily gave in in ya mothers passing..without this sounding like im brown tounging, your a good man darin and ya give strength to people who are new and the regulars on the board..i know you know ya mum is proud of ya as she looks down and theres nothing wrong in feeling proud of yaself..you've helped me alot as times gone on and i thank ya for that..and im sure many others will agree that you've helped them in times of advice/support..good luck to ya mate and its nice to know ya ;)..much peace to ya..Robbie..
Obviously this is some very powerful stuff. I can think of two different people on the p/p board losing family members due to eating the jel off of the patch. Dead within an hour or two.

The w/d is just brutal I've also heard from a friend. She was chewing 1000 mg's of oxy and eating perc's all day and said it was still the worst thing she'd gone through. I've read people on the sub board say the same thing. Mr Dr. offered the lollipops to me when I was using oxy. Even being totally strung out then, I still knew to say no! The w/d is a brand of hell most of us don't know about.

So in short, the risk of death is very hig, total dependance comes quuick and the dope sickness is the worst around. Stay clear children!!

Beck
My next door neighbor in Jersey started squeezing that s*** out of the patches & mixed it with water. He said it was cheaper & much better than dope.

He died about 3- years ago -alone in his room, found by his mom after doing too much(its almost impossible to gauge the amount your doing)

I believe I told the story here- his name was AL.

Dangerous drug. Used as an anthastethic when you go under for a major operation.
Robbie,
Much respect and thanx!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Darin,

When all was said and done, you were a wonderful son to your beloved mom. I'm sorry for all your sadness, but very happy that you had the satisfaction and ability to be there for her as she was there for you. I'm sorry she had to suffer so. My thoughts are with you!

Beck
Beck,
Thank you SO very much........my only hope is that I gave her 1/8th of what she had given me. ATB to you!
Darin
..Darin..
..No probs ;)..
..Hey Beck..i see ya said hi to me on another thread but thought i'd say hey on here to ya..hope things are ok with ya..Robbie..
..These people who are getting these patches sent into them in prison are sure gonna suffer serious w/ds by the sound of how powerful this drug is..banged up in a cell and rattling..serious s*** man..Robbie..
Serious indeed Robbie!
