Food For Thought O T

Subject: The mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee....

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24
hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups
of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in
front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large
and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then
asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the
jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas
between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was
full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar.
Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the
jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "yes."

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and
poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space
between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to
recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the
important things--your family, your children, your health, your friends
and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only
they remained, your life would still be full."

"The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house
and your car. The sand is everything else---the small stuff. If you put
the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the
pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your
time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things
that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical
to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical
checkups. Take& nbsp;your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will
always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the
golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The
rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee
represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to
show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room
for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."
Hey Janet!

That was a great little gem to share! I am trying to focus on the golf balls for sure right now. As you know, the thought of relocating has me hopping to make sure I am doing all with my nephew (who is still young enough to want to hang out with his Aunt Sarah) and my new baby grandnephew...not to mention my Mom.

I hope you are doing well! Thank you for the mail today!

Love you,

Sarah
glad you liked it Sarah, I thought it was a great analogy.

I finally went to the dr today, a shot, some antibiotics and antihistamines, now I can finally shake this thing. Hope I have enough energy tomorrow or Wednesday to finally give my house a long-deserved cleaning. We have been having some very pretty days lately...too bad it will be miserable and humid within the next month. I'm looking forward to a crawfish boil by they end of this month.

Thank you so much for posting that Janet!!!
I remember reading it before, but have not heard it in a while .... perfect for today .... need to re-adjust my thinking and this one helps!!

Hope you feel better!!

It's so good to see you around again Swizzle! I hope that you will soon be able to deal with your grief and be able to remember the good things that you have locked inside your heart. God Bless You!

Thanks again Janet!!
I will certainly be giving my kids giant hugs today when they get out of school!!!
Appreciation for what I have is huge!!
So grateful for another day clean ....

:-)

Janet:

Crawfish boils sounds GREAT! I have been eating them like crazy this year...more than usual! They are pretty size...and I really like the way Bayles and Riverside Coney cook them.

I haven't boiled any myself, but thought about doing it this weekend, as it is back to the grind next week for me!

I have been riding my bike everyday lately. Yesterday it was a bit chilly, but I just let my nose run and eyes water and kept on peddling and smiling. My dogs LOVE running beside me when I ride. We look quite ridiculous! hahaha, makes the neighbors go inside! I have been wearing ridiculous hats when I ride, just to add a little flair around here! My husband just shakes his head and laughs when we get ready to go out the door....thank God he loves me!

One thing I notice from riding is things are really budding up green all over the place! I need to cut back my crepe myrtles...and do general clean up around this yard...but I think I am going to save that for Wednesday, Thursday!

I might have to check into buying some live dads....where do you get yours?

Sarah

My brother in law usually gets them at Cypress Inn, though there is a little mom and pop stand near the daycare in Bawcomville/Brownsville that he buys from sometimes. We always have the usual corn and taters, but add in fresh mushroom and cauliflower..they soak up the Zatarain's so good...mmmm They invested in a big huge pot that they can cook up to 50 lbs of bugs in. We usually have at least 4 extra people to share with us. Okay, I'm drooling now! lol

We had some cauliflower boiled in Zatarain's Saturday night with dinner, gotta have that hot stuff soon

I wish I had the $ to invest on a bike, but it's so hilly where I live. Sounds like you have fun.
I just called my brother in law and lined up a situation to boil crawfish on Saturday! I couldn't take it anymore! hahaha,

This thread really is "food for thought" isn't it?

S
Try the mushrooms and cauliflower, you'll never do them without it. I think the cauliflower takes about 10 mins.

Well I'm off to get some rest before Dylan gets home, have a nice day!
Do you drop it in there whole?

I usually do onions and garlics too!
I love that story Janet...How very true and I hope your feeling better soon!

Hi Swizzle....

Hey there Sarah,
Glad to see you're busy and enjoying life...I think about you often & just had to jump in here to say Hi....

Have a blessed day ladies....
xoxo
Stacey
Yes Sarah, drop the cauliflower in whole, it will cook really fast and fall apart...onions sound good too..have to buy some for our dinner.
"need to re-adjust my thinking and this one helps!!" per Swizzle.
How true that always is! Just reading this post and focusing on family AND a delish meal can make the day so much better than it would have been. Thanks for this post Janet. (you too Swizzle)
