Merry Christmas morning people
Last night (Christmas eve has always been the big gig for my family) was just terrific. The 9 million grand-kids who I suddenly noticed - had a great time and are starting new traditions mixed with the old ones that have been put in place long ago.
Technology has made it possible to to have Karaoke carols* video presentations of different events through the last year, and digital cameras are all over , so there is no escaping it if you don't want your picture taken. In the old days ,you would have to send film to the store to get developed , & that took days. Last night we were exchanging photos with cousins in California in seconds.
Yeah-times change. We touched base during the evening to toast the memories of Christmas,s that have past. We remembered family who are no longer with us, and yes it is a bit sad - - but I noticed the children have taken over the new - looking forward to the challenging future. Yet respectfully ,remembering where it all started. They all know our family is what it is because of special people - - something that they have learned much earlier than I did
I also noticed the job of teaching the kids the real meaning of Christmas was not lost in the tons of gift wrapping on the floor. My parents, my brothers, and my sister, have done an unbelievable job to stress the spirituality of the Holidays.
You could see and hear through their faces and voices. The kids hearts and souls were very much aligned - & to that I give much credit to their families for keeping the Christ in Christmas.
Sorry for the long note- but for someone like me, who spends too much time on the past, it really hit me- - these kids have the future & have embraced it. With the values of the past, that they were taught it is incorporated into the present.
We know how lucky we are - we are struggling thru this economy with everyone else, but the most important things in life come through a different struggle.
Here's hoping all my friends here embrace the present while remembering the past. I was fortunate to feel it last night and I wish the same for all you guys
Blessings&joy

See jack it turned out all right. Even better than expected. I'm happy to hear that. I always worry about the commercialism and I'm guilty too. I make sure to get the kids to church on Christmas Eve and say grace at dinner. They're mostly about the presents though. My daughter learned how to play "wish you were here" on guitar and played it for me as a gift. That the best one I got. The thought was there and that truly is the most important thing. This is the first year there wasn't a toy under the tree. Also the first without my mother. Times do change and things change but we have to keep rolling on. Glad your holiday was good!
A merry, merry Christmas to you, Jack...so glad it was more than you had hoped for for...all good things to you today and always.

Jack,
I was so feeling like you and a few others on here, stressed as hell and skint. And the man's going from amps to the juice on the 9th of Jan so there's all that worrying going on.
Then i bumped into (literally) our local priest on the 23rd. I tried to get away asap because I don't know him, didn't want to talk to him. He asked why I was rushing about and, I said Christmas shopping and all that.
He said 'Forget it, relax, go to the pub for a drink' Not what you expect your Roman Catholic Priest to tell you.
He went on to say that Jesus never knew a Christmas, never knew what it was. And if he came back to earth the concept of celebrating his birth with all the food and the presents would mystify him. He wouldn't understand how decorating a tree with plastic lights was important. And as for the man in the red suit with a flying sleigh who lives with elves. Even he would never get his head around that one. I was sort of waiting for our priest to turn this into a joke with a punch line and everything but he didn't. He just said 'Buy enough food for a nice meal and go to the pub, talk to people you don't know, that's probably what Jesus would do'
So, I decided what I didn't have, I didn't have. Went home and took my man the pub. And I talked to people who were out on their own, it wasn't that hard, they were just surprised that a stranger was talking to them.
For the first time in forever, I've given presents that I've made, cookies, mince pies and fudge - the family were not impressed. Of course I got my little one some of the usual stuff a tennis racket and DS Lite games but not so much, not like I usually do. And i did, do feel almost festive.
