good morning!
i am doing ok, thanks for asking, just got up a while ago, today is going to be a busy one as usual...chiropractor appt at 11:30, aftercare counseling at 1:30 then i work today in my home salon, one shampoo set, a mens haircut and then a eyebrow wax for a teen age girl.
i have been juggling 3 part time jobs since dec 11. i work mondays in a nursing home styling hair, i just started there and the residents are thrilled to have a stylist in the building as their current hair stylist quit in july and they have had no hair care since! sooo i have been busy cutting mounds of hair off of these residents whose hair is down to their shoulders! also perming the ladies and doing a little color too. i also roller set them too. it is so gratifying to see the results of my work, little by little everyone is looking spruced up!
i am trying to figure out why it was Gods plan to put me there??? could it be a part of my recovery from drugs that the Lord saw fit to do for me?? i have always been afraid of people (trust issues from the past) and i never have felt uneasy around an elderly person infact i enjoy them, talking about their life history and how things were for them back in the day... i have one client who is 101!!! she is so adorable and her mind is sharp as a pin!
i guess while i am on the subject i could ask if anyone as any advice on shampooing an elderly persons hair?? this is my dilema: they are not long enough to fit comfortably in a shampoo bowl, or they have to be shampooed sitting in a wheel chair, i have been a stylist for years and this is a new challenge for me, i have tried the neutralizing bib where this plastic device wraps around their head with a funnel that extends into the shampoo bowl, doesnt work, the velcro attachment is scratchy at their forehead, ive tried cotton, towels, doesnt work, and the funnel just barely reaches into the bowl, to make a long story short i had flooded the floor with water and the client as well. i am thinking now maybe some type of booster chair?? but i dont know about the ones that cant get out of their wheel chair. i never realized how much work is involved in getting the residents seated!!! walkers, wheel chairs, i am constantly moving all the furniture around in the salon to accomodate them, not complaining at all i respect these individuals for their handicap, just racking my brain for ways to improve the situation.
sorry to ramble on so long on the goos, should of posted this on a different subject.
so i work there, my home salon and another salon called plaza designs (fri, sat)
i am literally exhausted, trying to keep my recovery going, meetings, finding a new sponsor, working the steps, diabetes, anxiety, the holiday, etc.etc. etc.
i have a long way to go in my recovery, i know i made improvement, havent taken a vicodin since july 10th. but there are so many areas in my life i need to address and i feel frustrated and overwhelmed, not good for an addict, no peace or serenity yet. i guess i need to keep telling myself it is in Gods hands and talk today with my counselor on these issues. where are you mj?

Jewels, I am a CNA and do private duty also. If you are doing hair in a nursing home can you make it so you do your clients hair right after the CNA has gotten them out of the shower and their hair is already washed? Also when I did private duty I took care of a elderly man who had to be hoyer lifted out of bed into his wheelchair to have his hair washed. He had no mobility at all to lean into a sink to have his hair washed. We used a cape and alot of towels and it worked just fine. Good luck. Shantel
Goos everyone!
MJ, I'm worried about you too...I'm hoping this is just a self-imposed time out.
I will never use Zicam again. It has given me a sinus headache so bad that nothing will clear it up...it has gotten so much worse the past few days..I stopped using it yesterday. I'm also having alot of back and neck pain. I took some ibuprofen yesterday but had it all day and woke up with it again. I am probably going to have to go to the dr if it doesn't go away by Monday. Yes, I never got super snotty, but I don't know what is worse...this headache or getting a raw nose from blowing it. I get such a bad painful headrush when I stand up.
I hope everyone else is feeling better than me...

shantell,
yes i could use your advise on doing their hair after the cna has shampooed them but there is still the dilema of rinsing perms...
janet, i cant remember exactly what was said on this subject but i remember overhearing the news one day as i was running around that there was something negative about zicam... wish i could remember what it was... was it that it made a persons cold worse? or maybe it had to do with a negative health issue that zicam was resposible for...anyway i know i wont purchase it again.
one thing i do find relief for congestion and it can only be used SHORT TERM because of its potential for overuse can cause more conjestion is afrin nasal spray. it usually will clear up a feeling of conjestion, sometimes it works immediately then there are times like it takes 20 min. or so. i have tried all other nasal sprays and i like afrin the best, i have to be careful with that drug too cuz i would use it everyday if i could, i like breathe right strips too but they dont stick to the skin very well even after thoroughly washing your face, and they are not cheap either.
hope you feel better soon janet, and hope we hear from mj soon! julie

I took a Zyrtec a while ago and the congestion is going away. I hope this helps without making me too spacey. I still have a slight headache and I hope that goes away too. Personally I think now that when you get a cold it is probably better to get the mucous out of your sinus passages, the Zicam seems to work on keeping the stuff from building up in your nose only. It doesn't seem to affect the sinuses. My sinus cavities have been sore and the only time I got headaches lately was when they were doing traction on my neck. I've had headaches since Saturday, yesterday and today being the worse.
janet'
it sounds like it could be a sinus infection for which you will need an antibiotic, sinus infections are miserable! see you doctor soon if you can. julie

I'm going to give it till Monday and if it hasn't cleared up I will definately go to the dr. Hopefully the Zyrtec will help me out. My dr only works half a day on Friday.
I just read this thread now and Janet Im sorry to hear about your reaction to the Zicam. To me it worked wonders. I took it at the very beginning of feeling a cold coming on, along with Cold-Eeze, and have found both to really seem helpful in offsetting a horrible cold. Well, just another example of how chemicals effect all of us differently. I feel bad it didnt help you.
