Grace is unearned loved. It's love that can't be paid forward, paid back, or returned in kind in any way. It is unearned. I recognize it as something that my parents would give me on occasion--not because they had to, but because it was something they chose to do without regard for repayment. Selfless. I recognize it as a parent myself--doing something for my children even though it's not required. A hug, a kind word, an act of kindness with nothing expected in return.
It's not because of MY Higher Power's love, or in spite of it, that I didn't want to acknowledge the program of Alcoholics Anonymous or get sober. It wasn't MY Higher Power's love--or lack of it that kept me from getting the program. It was me. Free choice. And stubborness to do it My Way.
MY HP wants me to be happy, loving, and free--so do others. Grace of MY Higher Power doesn't keep me sober or keep another alcoholic from getting the program. The way I see it, grace is the life of love I get to pass on as a RESULT of the program of AA.
skg I don't know what you do for a living but you sure have a way with words. Have you ever considered writing a book? I think with your talent of words and the way you get your point across you can actually help a lot of people .Have you given any thought to writing articles for magazines or newspapers ?A lot of times when i read what you write I think this guy can HELP so many! With your words and your knowledge of the terrible disease that afflicts us you have a way of putting in words to make us think and I like your straight forward approach. I don't know if you have heard of the saying "the pen is greater than the sword" Well skg your pen certainly is. God bless and be safe.
...but for the grace of God go I...you can't imagine how many times I said that today and how many times it ran through my head.....I've got a relative out there in the "trenches" and it is making me so very grateful for this gift of sobriety!
