Hola my bro, hope all is well in yer part of the world......im doing o.k a bit stressed but coping with the mad Xmas rush,Sian will be the lucky owner of a Nintendo Wii on the day itself, also my Ma spoils her rotten so im sure she will be getting plenty more presents.Anyway my friend im thinking of treating myself to some new music.....could you recommend anything that you have unearthed in yer endless search for new tunes......you know my styles and tastes pretty well,so any advice would be greatly appreciated.Take care my main MUCKER...........Davey
SO SO SO much has been discovered this year Davey.
For the old soul lover in you check out Raphael Saddiq's The Way I See It. It goes one step further than Amy's Back To Black with it's natural flow and commitment to recreating that solid sound.
If you are looking for jazz/electronica/soul/trip hop fusion at it's finest then give a listen to Jazzanova's Of All The Things......it's been in regular rotation on my ipod since I grabbed a copy and I cannot stop playing it.
I have been a BIG fan of blue-eyed soul for some time and through dumb luck I came across Natalie Williams. She is another artist that I cannot get enough of and even though her first two cd's have been out a little while they both are a great discovery for me.
Then the biggest surprise this year was the release of Grace Jones's first full length cd in 19yrs. It's called Hurricane and is only availible on import for us on this side of the pond. I sampled it and RUSHED to get a copy after findong out that most of the COmpass Point All-Stars returned with their talents in hand.....im talking Sly and Robbie, Uziah "Sticky" Thompson, Mikey 'Mao' Chung, and Wally Badarou. ALSO Tricky is on hand with some production and the still amazing Wendy and Lisa (fromer Prince and The Revolution members) lend a hand as well......>POWERFUL!
Those are just a few of MANY of 08's best finds......stay tuned for more INTEL!

D.

Oh!!of course Corrine cannot be excluded from any music banter....i totally understand that when bands are recommended....Corrine is first to plug Blue October.....which is her God given right lol.Anyhow Darin im looking forward to the Jazzanova c.d,they are right up my street. As you said i may get a chance to spin it on the day itself if i can diconnect myself from playing tennis on the Wii with my Sian.I know for you its a tough time specially missing yer Ma,but in my house we also have an empty place at the table,my bro Joe is dead 10yrs..so the festive season is tough on both me and my Ma....it was only the two of us bros growing up....we were best mates......so we cry a few silent tears for him at this time of year.....coz like you Darin we have lost a piece of ourselves when someone that dies is very close to us.Take care my pal....and thanks again for being my musical barometer..........Davey
Guys, just be happy I moved out of my David cassidy/Bobby Sherman phase...that was a good 20 years of my life shot to hell. Friggin Git. I tried to Jazz it up, remember? I can't help it if I ain't got no soul in my bones. Davey, you in England? go see Blue on jan 29th, then get back to me. Bet you'll come on over to the Blue side and leave the Git moonwalkin by his lonesome.
Davey,
Man I tell ya......her birthday is the day before xmas which doubles the memories AND tears. I had a LONG talk with my sister today and we laughed, cried, and laughed sommore trying to comfort oneanother as best we could. Although it NEVER gets better we learn to deal and find a place to store the pain. Even when we stumble and fall short we have to keep moving on to a better day in honor of Joe and Jennie Mae and the endless amount of love we had (and always will) for them both. You know.....through it all music has bee right by my side helping make since of this weird yet beautiful struggle called life. Be it You Make Me Smile by Blue October, Taken Away by Ben Westbeech, or Until by Musiq Soulchild music has provided the soundtrack for for those happy days and comfort for my pain when I am feeling low. To be able to share it with like minded folk......EVEN THE SOULESS ONES CORRINNE is one of life greatest joys so dude it's my pleasure......and honor! As for the lady Corrinne.....like she I never miss the chance to poke fun her....it's another of lifes great joys.....LOL! ATB dude!

Firstly,Corrine im in Ireland....so i dont know if Blue Octobers musical tentacles will reach my fair isle,i will have to do some research.....they seem more popular in the U.S than in the U.K or Ireland.....are they from the U.K?
Darin i knew you could relate to the loss of those we loved and loved us back without question.I know Jeannie Mae was yer best friend and confidante as was my bro Joe to me,so as ya said we tough it out on the bad days....for our sakes and the wonderful memories of the ones we miss........Darin mate i know we have had a connect over the last couple of years.......music,upbringing,humour,the horror of addiction.......so im privialiged to know you my friend......sorry for being sloppy.....just the way it is.Take care D,............Davey

Darin just listened to some tracks off the newish c.d....on utube,my copy is still lost in the Xmas rush, but from what ive heard its a brilliant soundtrack to our lives.....sorry im talking bout Jazzanova.....really great stuff,i first got into them thru their remixes of 1990s drum&bass tunes, they have been about for a long time, and there German i think....not that i hold that against them....remember Kraftwerk they paved the way for so much electronica popular today. They played a gig in Dublin bout 3mnths ago which i had the pleasure of seeing, they sounded so crisp and taut, they played all the classics from Tour de France to the Model.Anyhow mucker thanks for the INTEL..........take care my man ......Davey
Kraftwerk were the electronic gods of my days as a youth and were my introduction to the world of electronica and did indeed paved the way for those that are doin it today! Jazzanova's new one is AWESOME and once you get hold of it fully you will see just way I say that is! ATB!
Wow! I have'nt thought of Kraftwerk in a long time. I had an album by them back in the day and I loved it! Oops! I'm showing my age! Gotta go!
