Happy Fat Tuesday

Happy Fat Tuesday everyone.

Happy Mardi Gras.

Have a fastnaucht.

What are you giving up for Lent?
Giving up nada...gave that up.

Mardi Gras...had a blast today and last night. Got snowed in up in VT...40" of snow started Saturday at noon and snowed through Monday at 7pm. Skied in a cancer fundraiser Sunday and had taken a personal day for Monday...couldn't get home. Fun sister was up for the weekend and the airport was closed, so we went to Mardi Gras parade on the mountain, went to the bar and heard a fun band, had dinner at the hotel (we never do that, always eat in) and skied hard today. They were playing zydeco and blues at all the lifts and it was blue skies all afternoon. *Sigh* hated to come home and leave the husband and daughter having fun for the rest of the week, so I'm working on a little gratitude that I have a great job to be home for.

Et vous amie moi?

Laissez les bons temps roulez!

Man, I only had four years of French. I know un fites and le chat oh and le chien. In Paris you know that kid was mortified when I asked the maid to sleep with me by singing Patti LaBelle.

Ohhhhhhhh this Moroccon cutie dude works at my local stop and shop and drink big gulps he speaks French and like five other languages. I talk to him in French. Bonjour. Tres bien mon amis.

Soooooooooooooooo I saw you were having a blast. Lovely. Mardi Gras on the Mountain. Now we're talking. I bet ya did the Ragin Cajun jig and reeled around. LOL What a snow day that was. So glad you could call in. LOL "Hello, ummmm do we have off? What no snow there? Tell them kids there's snow. They have off cause I'm snowed in".

What fun.

Glad you had a fabulous time. I don't believe I've heard you that giddy in a long time, Maam. I likie!

"THROW ME SOME MISTER"

Gave up the beads and masks to DD. Drumming circle went Carnivale. I wore all my beads around my neck over to her place and some little kids were like "Hey did you go on the Shamrock Shuttle?"

Beads here are synonymous with Saint Paddy's Day always celebrated a freakin two week ahead of time lead off.

Miss ya. Good times, lovie.
Pardon my ignorance
ladies but what exactly is Mardi Gras??Its obviously carnival time though is it a gay thing??Ive seen all the folks on tv throwing beads down at people though ive never known why..
Giving up for lent?I think thats a Roman Catholic thing isnt it?Well if ive got to give anything up its gotta be that wee bird who,s got the hots for me,dont think i,ll be going back there as she,s a bit of a zoomer..Ive only stayed over once then the next day she called me up and we spoke for a while,n,when we were saying goodnight she told me that she loved me..I thought to myself,W.T.F,,Whoa.whoa,whoa,,i mean i,m obviously a super, duper guy..lol...or more like she,s a no-riter....I thought to myself, girl,,you scare the s*** out of me,,who says they love someone after one night of fashion???Anyway,,i,m too far out my comfort zone with her anyway, not my type...
So does mardi gras happen all over the U.S.A??And how long does it last,i,ve been to the Notting Hill carnival in London which is on August bank holiday Monday which falls straight after the Reading rock festival. We arrived at the carnival after roughing it all weekend at the rock festival absolutely minging, still those were the days,,superb...Way to old and sensible for all that now though,,,lol.....take care...Eck....ps,,,does anyone know when our Kitty gets married??///
Mardi=Tuesday Gras=Fat...both in French. It's the day before Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent in some traditions.

Here's a good link: to Mardi Gras explanantions

Here the biggest Mardi Gras in in New Orleans where the bulk of french culture has thrived in the US. The traditional colors are purple, gold, and green and so the beads are tossed in those colors...I'v got a trunk full of them from our mountain celebration last week and in previous years...I give'em to my students.

My fave Mardi Gras tradition is the King Cake, a sweet and sugar-coated (same colors) coffe cake or bread that has a tiny plastic baby baked inside representing the Christ child...OMG it is SO tasty if you get it from the right bakery...whoever gets the baby has to host the next party. My sister used to live in New Orleans and she would send us each a King Cake every Fat Tuesday...I could eat a 15" circle myself without breaking my stroke.

Bon apetite mon ami!

PS Check out the baby face down in the middle of the sugar...that's me!
Man!!!!
Ive got toothache just lookin at that cake Mom!!!I never realised that mardi gras had a French connection,as you know i,m in Paris or other parts of France usually starting at this time of year through until late July,August but i cant say i,ve ever come accross the Mardi Gras though last year on one of our tours there was a huge gay rights or gay pride march on whilst we were visiting and they closed down some of the roads in the city to acommodate it which caused me to be lost in France for a little while...It was so colourful with all the Queens etc with all their dresses,n,make up on and it really was a sight worth seeing,,i actually wish we had more time to watch the thing as it really was quite a spectacle and if i ever hear of or see one again i think i,ll stop for a bit to watch. Before actually seeing this for myself i think if anyone had asked me if i wanted to go watch a march such as this i,d have told them where to go..
Thanks for the info on it Mom,n,i,ll catch you all soon.......Eck.......................................
