Jack, Thanks for the msg...I'm in for the night too...right before 6:00 pm here in LA...just rented movies and plan to do some reading. My boyfriend went to Laughlin to gamble...my oldest daughter lives with her Dad and my youngest one who is 15 is spending the night away...so it's just me...take care you help too, it's good we all have each other...it makes me feel surrounded with friends even though I'm alone in this apt. It's so good to be sober!
Jack, BTW, what channel are the Twilight zone marathons on? I love those! Geri
Here in NY- THEY are on 24 hours straight on the Sci-Fi channel
Happy New Year LA
I lived in Anihiem(OC) for a bunch of years in the early 80,s.
Too much fun- thought I had to come back to NY
In hindsight probaby a mistake-

Jack, you lived close to Disneyland then, right? I live in Redondo Beach, south of LAX....I was born and raised here, and I've never been back East. Happy New Year, anything I should be on the lookout for as the clock strikes midnight in a little over two hours here on the West Coast?
Hello again Geri
Yeah back in 1980(after 2 trying years at Boston College) I decided to relax a bit .. So I went west. Moved to Huntington Beach(there was a bar on the pier called Maxwells)-I lived off Ellis ave I think .. anyway,to much partying ruined any idea I had of returning back east on time for school.
One thing led to another & I wound up living on Ball st -right across the damn rd from Disneyland.,in Aniheim I used to watch the fireworks every night.
I guess I thought that I would be better off back in the NY area and left in 1983.
Turns out that when I returned back here I got involved in all the wrong things .This is not to say,the same kind of things wouldnt have happened out there.but...who knows?
Ya can run but ya cant hide ,ya know?
I cant help wonder ,that even though I was an addict at that time,I never even thought about heroin until I was back here.-Sadly I was 27 yrs old before that horrible cycle started.
Well- thanks for letting me spill a little of my past- once again Happy New Year
as usual -much love & respect to you

Happy New Year Jack! I know exactly where you lived while you were in SoCal...both locations. Anyway, I didn't try the geographical thing...but I did try heroin when I was about 17 or 18 years old and became violently ill after snorting it. However, I became violently ill after drinking and that didn't stop me from drinking, go figure. I absolutely fell in love with alcohol and cocaine and it took me 28 years of putting those substances first in my life until I was finally graced with the gift of desperation and surrendered on 22 November 2003. I fell asleep at 11:30 ish last night, didn't hear a thing at midnight, maybe the rain kept everyone in....here's to a wonderful 2006.
Happy New Year, everyone! I hope everyone is safe and sound this morning! Isn't it wonderful to wake up without a hangover????
Thanks 12 Stepper & Gina, awesome not to have a hangover today! Woohoo!
It is great to wake up without a hangover.
I am new here, I haven't had a drink for 13 days after going though a 1.75 a week.( even more than that right before I quit).
This is the first time I have tried to quit drinking, before I would just try to cut down but that didn't really work very well. Even when it did work for awhile I would always end up back where I started whenever I tried to just cut down.
Eventually I came to the conclusion that it would be easier to quit all together than it would to keep trying to moderate my drinking.
I doing this without a rehab or a doctor or anything (don't have insurance).
Feeling remarkably well considering how much I was drinking before I quit.
Happy Sober New Year everyone!
Cailyn

Hi Cailyn
I love your name BTW 17 days is great!! Getting thru the holidays without drinking is awesome. My name is Kat and I'm an alkie/addict. Are you going to AA or counseling or anything to help with your recovery? I go to AA. It saved my life. Some go to therapy. What are you planning?

Sure sure sure, Jeff. Everybody just forgets about me. Don't feel bad. haha JK
Cailyn,
You don't have to do it alone, sweetie. AA is there for all of us that want to stay not drinking. Sobriety can be a wonderful thing once we learn to live life without getting drunk over every little thing. You can probably find a meeting in the Yellow Pages or Google Alcoholics Anonymous. Meetings are everywhere. Here in Broward County in South Florida there are 2800 meetings a month! I guess we have lots of drunks down here. It's a wonderful program for those that want it.

Kat, I looked up a list of meeting locations last night- I'll check it out sometime soon.
I probably could use some help in learning how to deal with stress without drinking.
A lot of my drinking problem seems to be that I can't deal with stress very well.
