My name is Anthony, and have been addicted to opiates, in one form or another for greater than 10 years. I've finally found something that works, for me, and that is Suboxone maintainance therapy.
Throughout my many years of "research and development", I've tried it all!! For now I won't define "all" (for the sake of time) but rest assured I've attemted to quit countless times in every way possible. That being said, lets talk about Suboxone maintenance.
A very, very long time ago I heard,"If you are like us, one is too many and a thousand, never enough", but perhaps more importantly,"Insanity is repeating the same behaviors, expecting diferent results". I heard and listened and did my very best to detox and stay clean, however, inevitably I would begin to use again in spite of all my best efforts or "giving it up to God".
Now, I still follow the 12stps, and have "given it up", but I have stopped the insanity of trying to stay clean without medication. And I don't mean mind or mood altering meds.,(although some would beg to differ, but F***em anyway, because it is my life on the line here anyhow).
Suboxone is prescribed to me by a doctor, every two weeks, in the privacy of his office, I then fill it in any pharmacy I choose. I proceed to place one (1) tablet under my tongue, every morning before work. This does not get me high in the least bit, I perform a job that requires alertness, and mental aquity and I perform it exceptionally. My life is getting back to where I lost it so many years ago. I have a daughter who loves me, parents that speak to me, a loving family and a few friends. I could not even begin to detail how this has changed my life!!!
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, in the addict subculture there tends to be a great deal of misinformation, rumors and straight up lies, so listen up. If you are reading this and realize that you too, cannot STAY clean, give this a chance and yourself a break. And give yourself permission to utilize this drug in the way it was designed to be used. Don't worry about how long you have to take it for or anything else, get it and get back to living again because if your not dead yet, God has greater plans for you. And one last thing, for the hard core addict this IS NOT a detox drug. Suboxone not only practically eliminates cravings, but if while on it, you do decide to use, you CAN'T FEEL A THING!!
Thats why it is so successfull. If you do get the urge to use, you realize that you must stop taking the Suboxone for a few days in order to feel any opiate effects from dope. And if you really have the desire to change, this is hopefully not an option. Good luck to all!!!
Hi Anthony,
I too took opiates for at least the past 5 years. I was up to around 40 a day, and found the suboxone program. It has not only saved my life, but so many others that I have met online too.
Everything he says is absolutely true. What a wonderful thing!!
I forgot what "real" life was about. What it felt like to smile and feel good inside.
I have been clean since July 2003.
I am loving life!!!
I thank God for this med.

Hi Anthony, I am also taking 8mgs a day of Suboxone. I was wondering how much mgs you were taking a day and If you have any side effects. I have no energy and all I want to do is sleep. I feel good when I first take the med for a few hours then after that I feel sluggish untill the next pill the next day. I am glad you are doing so well. Take care Michele
Hi Michelle,
How long have you been on the Suboxone? I have been on it since July 2003.
It has never made me feel tired, sluggish, but after 7 months + I get cravings only sometimes now. I was taking 3ea 8mg tabs a day, now down to 2ea 8mgs. a day. When I first started and for months after, I NEVER got cravings. I think alot of that has to do with what is going on with your life, ect. And with being a addict, I had to figure it would come sooner or later.
I still think it is a miracle as so many have done so good on it.
Take Care........Happy Valentimes Day!!!!

How to find a M.D. to prescribe suboxone Look in your phone book yellow pages under drug addiction ask them for a treatment center in your area of a M.D. thats licensed to prescribe Suboxone. I to just started taking the medication Monday 2/16/04 to eliminate the withdrawl symptoms of taking 20 Lortabs 10/500 per day what a difference I couldn't have stopped taking them without this med. I have no withdrawl symptoms at all,I couldn't wait to get on-line an share this with anyone out there that wants to stop but can't cold turkey it's unbearable. This drug makes a world of difference! When I started taking the Suboxone I was amazed no jumpy legs, no hot&cold,no cramps&diarrhea,no achy body,no feeling like I wanted to crawl out of my own skin and I was also able to sleep at night. What wonderful feeling this was I felt normal, like I again was back in control of my LIFE not the lortab controling me. I really encourage anyone who also wants control back look for a M.D. thats license to dispense this med. Ihope this message helps anyone else having a hard time. God Bless! Kathy
An easy way to find a physician qualified to give out suboxone is
A nationwide registry of physicians who have taken this training is available at buprenorphine.samhsa.gov/bwns_locator/index.html. You can choose Physician List Search at the bottom of the page to search by city, county, zip code or state or just click on the state you want on the map.
Good luck,
Lucia

I would like to know if the people taking Burprenorphine ( Suboxone) had to take a drug test every week??
Seems my diaughter went to a doc. and he told her to take a drug test and it had to be negative for codone meds. I thought this medicaition was for withdrawls and if that is so then you would have a positive drug test. Did anyelse have to get a drug test?
