I was wondering if anyone has advice for me? I have been taking vicoprofen (10 pills a day) for about 2 months and want to stop but am very scared of the withdraw. Was hoping for some helpful advice.
Honey....it's hard for me to give advice b/c i am still using. i am however seeing a doctor thurs to help me with my addiction and try to recover "again"
there are many special people on here that will have wonderful advice for you, just hang on. i just wanted to offer my friendship and the comfort of knowing that you are not alone. Keep posting and you will find help!

Thankyou for your kind words, I need all I can get right now. I am seeing a Dr. as well to try to help me "ween" off the pills, but I am having a VERY hard time. Again thanks and any advice is helpful
I am going to see an addiction specialist that specializes in suboxone therapy that elimanates w/d's. I've tried c/t many times and it didn't stick so that's why i'm trying this new approach. I know nothing about it except it may work for people who have tried quitting several times with no luck. If you've only been doing this for 2 months than maybe just quitting w/o drug therapy would be best for you along with a suppot group like AA/NA. I've never tried outside help before b/c I was too embarrased and too chicken, but not anymore. I can't handle this addiction my own and can't wait to get professional help!
Hi Emma
I doubt if you would have severe w/d symptoms if it's only been two months for you. If you can wean down to 4 or 5 a day you could probably just stop. You may feel like you have the flu for a few days but not for too long. If the weaning gets too difficult, maybe you could just quit. What are you down too now? What did your doctor tell you?

Emma,
Welcome to the board. I agree with Kat. I really don't think your w/d will be that bad considering you've only been using for 2 months. Use that to your advantage. Stop now before it takes up anymore of your time or energy. Attend N/A. Tell the people you are closest to what is going on. Don't isolate or try to do this all alone. You will be fine even if it doesn't seem that way now. Best wishes.

My name is Dottie, I have been a member of this board for 2 years...but used again & didn't post much, I am 51 days clean & sober, remembering all the people on this board who cared about me was a blessing, but now I am in a half way house & am doing well but for me I have to do a meeting everyday & talk to my sponser.
You don't sound as bad as I was, I was using about 15 percocet 10s & 8 or 10 ativan........I de-toxed myself, It's not that bad 4 or 5 days of feeling like the flu and you will be done.
Can you taper off the pills?? that would be best, but either way you will have a couple bad days.....but your in no danger.
keep posting your on a great message board, we all care!!!
God Bless
Dottie

You're lucky you caught this when you did.
You'll feel a little crappy for a couple days, but it'll be so worth it.
You really need to get to the core of why you are using;
Good luck.
Hot baths are awesome when you do decide to stop.
Welcome.

Dottie,
things have been going well for us. Kaylin will be 3 on Oct. 6. I can't believe how old (& SMART!!) she is getting.
I've been working at the same place for about 10 and a half months and I really enjoy it there.
I've been off pills for a year coming up on the 25th.
Time flies.
I love clean life. I didn't think I could do it, and looking back I don't see why or how I put myself through torture to my brain and my body every day. I wasn't living. Purely existing, and not even wanting to.
I'm proud of you Dottie, and I'm so happy to see you.
You have a great night.
I've gotta get up super early.
my email is kaylinsmom440@yahoo.com
Email me some time.

Emma.............i agree with everybody. You caught this early enough that you could just quit on your own with some discomfort and maybe a support system. I'm thinking bout ya and hope you give this a try!
I am not sure if I am doing this right, am I supposted to reply posts to my own thread or reply to the specific person(s) replying to me? If I am doing it wrong just let me know. I am so thankful to have found this forum, everyone has had such kind and helpful words for me. I have been working w/my doctor to try to cut down on the pills but I am not doing so good at that. I keep promising myself that tomorrow I will take less and that is not working. I really want off of them because they are controlling my life. So I think just stopping all together is my only choice. It sounds as if everyone is saying that is will not be that awful due to I have been taking only (only, what a joke) for 2 months. Is that the case and is there anything that really helps with the withdraw other than time? Thanks to everyone for all the kind words.
You can either reply here or start another thread. It's up to you. Honey, get some imodium. You'll probably need it. Take hot baths when the aches get bad. Baths will also help calm your anxiety. I drank chamomile tea too. It doesn't last forever. I strongly suggest that when you decide to quit, get rid of all pills in your house because they will be screaming your name if they are there. Let us know how it goes, ok?
Hi Emma,
I'm new to this board too and like you, am very thankful for it. It's comforting to know that we're not alone in this.
I'm with what the others said, if you have noticed this problem in the 2 months you've been taking the pills, now is the time! I am just coming to grips with the fact that I'm an addict after 15 years of pain pill abuse. Coming to the realization that I do have a problem/disease and talking about it has been like a breath of fresh air.
The past 15 years of my life has revolved around pain pills --- I have such regret about that. But now is my time to get better and make sure the next 15 years of my life are way different.
Honesty is the best policy - especially with your doctor. I lied to my doctor for years and got pills out of deceiting him.
The mental addiction is the hardest for me, so if you're having a hard time with that, I'd definitely suggest maybe going to a counselor and/or NA meeting. If you're having a hard time sleeping, maybe you could try some tylenol PM or something like that.
As you wean yourself off of them, do whatever you can to keep your mind occupied. Do all the activities you love to do and stay busy. Maybe you could clean the house from top to bottom!
Good luck to you ...

Emma,
I think there are a few OTC meds that help a little with w/d. I'm sure somebody here can help you out with that. I know you should drink a lot of water and try to eat even if you don't want to. Most importantly is that you focus on what you are going to do after w/d. I'm sure you've heard people say it's not hard to quit drugs, it's hard to stay off them. I think you should look into some private therapy or N/A meetings. I fear that if you don't then in time you'll relapse because you'll think you can handle it. Nothing against you personally it's just that a lot of people, me being one, have experienced that. My first time quitting I did it at home and got no outside help. I was good for 5 months and then I broke my foot. The rest is history. Take care of this now so you can live a long, happy, healthy life.
