Wow Ginge! That would be confusing...i always think it's so weird when i see a movie or something on t.v. with people driving on the other side of the road like you guys do! You're all backwards.... or maybe it's us! LOL.........You'll do just fine;)
Ginge......you crack me up! I can't even imagine driving with my left hand on the gears and on the left side of the road. Okay I will risk a laugh at my expense but I am gonna ask a real stupid question. Any of you thinking I am a moron...go right ahead......Ginge....do the toilets swirl the opposite direction where you are? They go counter clockwise in the states. Just curious.

My first time in the US was in 1998, and that was one of the first things I checked out, the water does go the other way!!!
Also in the subject of toilets the ones down here dont fill up to the top with water like your ones do, only a bit in the bottom!!
Your light switches operate the other way as well ,switch down is on here, up is off,
And for the driving thing I hope its not to hard to pick up driving a lefthand truck, OMG what have I got myself in for!!
I like a challenge and this is going to be one of the biggest for me, As another thing will be the accent you guys have, When I have been before everyone thinks I have an accent, when its you guys that do :)

Ginge, your posts always crack me up! Thanks for that. I am in Southern Ca and Southern NV. We have a place in Laughlin NV as well as Costa Mesa CA. It's pretty cool to live in two places. My hubby has a construction company in California and we go to Laughlin to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is really freakin hot in Laughlin though. It gets up to 125-129 degrees f in the summer. Your feet actually stick to the asphalt so you have to walk quickly. We also have the Colorado river there to go and play with our toys so that keeps us cool.
Hope you have fun. The toilet water thing is odd to me. Not to be graphic but what happens if you have a "Big One"? Cut it short?? Ha ha...Flush often? Why don't they fill up the toilets? I wish that I could hear our accent. People that live in the southern states here have accents to us. Is that kind of like the thicker accents that they have in certain England cities????? I have a stop over in LA on my way, just booked a room on the net, so no doubt it will be a very average type of joint! only for a nite should be good,
I made a mistake last year and booked 1 week in a room in Chula Vista, got there and it was horrible, I only really slept there but was dirty smelt yuk!
But hey you only get what you pay for, I then booked into the Best Western up the road, they felt sorry for me and gave me a room for a cheaper price and it was like penthouse compared to the other!!!
Must of been that Kiwi/ Aussie accent:)
We do our temperture different here as well, like you say 100 degres I dont understand that, hot here is 40, cold is 0, well living in Oz cold now for me is 10!
You are lucky to have 2 places to live!

I don't know the temp. thing either. 125 is freaking melting. 32 is freezing for us I think. I could be wrong though. You have yourself a great time! Hopefully you will be able to get online from time to time and share funny stories.

Hey Val the toilets in NZ are like Auzzy they only flush half full and to be honest you get better skid marks that way on the bowl. Mind you if you sit on the toilet backwards they are even better, but i havn't done that since i stopped drinking???? Dont ask why i done that, i quess it's the dog part of me coming out as i had to mark where i have been and you are all probably thinking christ mental note say the toilet is blocked if Zac ever visits.LMAO(hope it doesn't mark anything)LOL:) Also the way the water drains differently is due to the earths gravitational pull being different isn't it.

About the gravity....I found that out after I was posting Ginge about it. My Hubby said you wrote that on there and he giggled. I said yeah unfortunately I did. The water runs the opposite way because we are in different hemispheres. The north and south poles are just that... poles. Opposite to each other magnetically.
If you were to place two opposite poled magnets together in a vacuum they would perpetually spin in the opposite direction from each other forever.

Ginge about driving on the other side of the road, that's a scary thought for me too. Also weird to think that making a left turn would be simpler than a right. Have you ever see the movie LA Story? The British journalist in LA keeps forgetting and driving on the left side and almost causing accidents everywhere she goes, it's so funny. That would probably be me in Europe or Aussie, think I'll stick to the American roads for now, keep the world a safer place!

Hey driving on the other side of road and changing gears with other hand is actually pretty easy. It didn't take me long to adjust at all. Once you are in the driver's seat it all makes sense.
Remember, drive to the centre of the road. That always helped me. The lines are in the centre right? So you should drive to the centre of the road.
The most important thing to do when you're first starting is be like a little kid.
LOOK TO THE LEFT, LOOK TO THE RIGHT AND LOOK TO THE LEFT AGAIN.
Seriously, this is the only area I had trouble with, figuring out where oncoming traffic was coming from - I almost got in an accident my first day out cause I looked the wrong way for oncoming traffic. Train yourself to look both ways before ANY turn just to be safe.
