A. lived with me for 2 years when she was in high school. I love her as my own daughter. Two days ago I found out she has been doing herion for the last 7 months. She started smoking it after her child was born.
I called and asked her to come over. I told her I knew what was going on and that I wanted to help her. She was extremely receptive. Between her real mom and me , we will care for her and her child while she goes through detox.
Anything special we should know. This won't be either of ours first time seeing something like this. Can you please share your thoughts and prayers with us.
Valarie.......First let's start with prayer:
For Families Torn by Addiction
We pray, O God of hope,
for all families
whose lives are torn and disrupted
by drugs and alcohol.
Enable them to identify the illness.
Strengthen them to seek help.
Bless them with the power of your love,
which imparts transformation and wholeness
to those who trust in your name.
Grant that as they walk this tortured road,
they may journey together
and bound close in the bond of love.
Amen.
Her being very receptive is a very good sign...that shows a disire and willingness. If her detox will be in the form of cold turkey(the method I chose) then it wont be easy but anything worth having in this life is worth fighting for...besides oh boy do the flower's smell sweeter in the land of the living. Have her drink plenty fliuds(juice and water)...if you have a juicer then that is a great way to go(juicing fresh fruits and veggies), Vitamins to start to put back what was depleated due to drug use, and eat as much as possible and. It may be hard but she will never have to live that way again if she gives herself a chance.
There is no greater being on this earth than a mother....by blood or extended....the uncoditional love you all give sustains life and gives hope....bless your dear heart. All the best!

Valerie,
I agree since she was receptive, and didn't lie outright, and deny it then you have a better chance of it going a little smoother.
I echo what everyone has said so far.........she is fortunate to have people who care so much as you do.......best wishes.......you say you've seen this before.
You know it's not pretty.......it sure is worth it though.
Keep us posted, please........prayers going up for you guys.

A. is with me now and we've just read your wonderful replies. Thank you all for your genuine concern and prayers. A. is home at my house, as I felt that I needed more control. We've read your replies together and she has decided to keep a diary with all of you through this.
Yesterday I got rid of what I had. Woke up with major pains and decided a Loureset and white russian would help. Still feeling okay but calves are starting to ache.

..Although withdrawals are horrible to have to go thru..staying off heroin is where the hard work starts..she will get cravings and suffer from insomnia for x amount of time..she,ll need to keep herself and mind occupied also..sitting around with nuffin to do will trigger all kinds of thoughts..i found doing a lot of reading and writing helped me a lot..also coming on here daily helped me cope with my cravings..and i,ve made good friends on here who are always willing to help and support me..as long as she wants to live her life free from addiction and stays strong mentally..she will win her battle..i wish her and ya,ll well..Robbie..

If I've got this right you said she's only been using for seven months and if this is her first rattle then it won't be that bad, I can't really remember what it's like but the first time I rattled, it was'nt pleasant but you can do it without that much fuss, it's after you've gone through it time and time again and each time you do it, it gets harder each time until the thought of going through it again, well, I think I'd top myself if I had to go through it again without any medication.
Try and avoid alcohol, all that will happen if you have to much is you will be rattleing and have a hangover so you will feel like total s***. are you doing this without any medication at all?
agree wid the animal deff try &get some med. why suffer 2 much but dont go on the booze coz its very easy 2 slip into.all the best
Along with juice, here are some things that helped me get through CT withdrawl;
green tea, no milk or sugar
peppermint tea, same no milk or sugar
honey ginseng tea (natural anti oxidants)
hot bubble baths
Motrin 400-600 3 times a day
tylenol pms
flu medicine but avoid products with psuedophedrine. Theraflu is awesome
they say no chocolate, but honey chocolate will ease the pain greatly so chocolate it up
dairy queen chocolate vanilla swirl or cookies and cream blizzard
Melatonin supplements and some vitamins, but the juicer idea is best as far as getting nutirents. She needs to eat, even if it's just bread and milk, and if a doc will do it maybe an SSRI for seratonin or an NDRI like welburtin, welbutrin raises the amount of dopamine in your brain
but most importantly keep her hydrated, even if it's pedialyte... gatorade has too much sugar and you'll also need some imodium ad. I took nyquil with the pms and actaully got to sleep during the second week. She is gonna need a comfy blanket and some movies, or a season of her favorite TV show. I watched the entire band of brothers, curb your enthusiasm, sopranos, star wars, and some independant docs on heroin use, watched on demand american justice, the first 48, intervention, etc. etc. it will be good to occupy her mind because reading is next to impossible. Video games are also great to get your mind off of it. Role playing games like kindom hearts, final fantasy, knights of the old republic, stuff like that. The games are so long and you get trapped in them, don't want to stop playing. Good luck to her, she can make it I know it!
