Hi Justonemore - Advice Please!

Dear Justonemore,

I am going to my first NA meeting tomorrow and needed some advice about protocol and thought of you first. I hope you don't mind.

I realise I will learn the ropes as I go along but does one have to stand up and announce their name/drug(s)/years of using or do newcomers just listen and learn? More specifically, I don't want to suddenly peal with laughter at a story only to realise that the person sharing had been deeply sincere and it was a painful experience for them!

Just a couple of pointers would be great, if you could, Justonemore and, also, if you read this in time, a quick reminder that I am 6 hours' ahead of you, time-wise. (Meet is at 6pm).

Thanks in advance,

HL

PS: Strangely enough, having lived in fear most of my life, I am actually looking forward to this meeting!!
You dont have to speak at the meetings. you are welcome to just sit and listen or speak. just keep it simple and please never laugh at anyone.you never know what your reaction could do the one reaching out.treat others how you would want them to treat you.meetings save lives!

Thanks for that. Of course I wouldn't laugh intentionally at anyone!! It'd be nerves.
