Hey guys
Well this is my last day of work before heading off for 2 weeks holidays.
yippee. I'm off to visit our fair city in the south for a few days and then home for christmas with the family.
I'm really looking forward to having a proper holiday and kind of excited and nervous about first sober christmas.
Just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry, Sober Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year.
I won't be on the boards after today until most likely the New Year. so take care everyone, have fun and stay sober!!!
Love to all
Idgie.
Idgie...Wishing you the best! Have a Happy Holiday....Enjoy! ...Love Gina
Thanks Gina
pheww---just got off the phone with my Mum I have broken the news to her that I won't be drinking this Christmas. I feel such a weight off.
Haven't told her I'm an alcoholic yet - but at least the door is open now and hopefully drinks wont be pushed on me now.
I said it was for health reasons, that I felt better when I didn't drink, sleep improved, more energy, not so much leg cramps etc. All TRUE.
She was pretty good about it - I told her that I really missed having a drink sometimes but it just wasn't worth it because of how it is affecting me lately, and that even one drink was a problem for me. Again all true!!!!
I'm hopeful now that I'll be able to finish the conversation in person over the holidays. And now they have a week to get used to the idea that I won't be drinking alcohol.

Idgie...Great start! You put it out there so hopefully that will relieve some pressure...Can you call a friend while you are away if it gets too much? Someone who knows and supports you? That helps too...
If you have it...bring some recovery literature with you to read during those tough or even not so tough moments...those daily meditations books are so helpful too...
The first holidays can be tough...having "that" conversation can be tough...but I have found most of the time that "tough" was more in my head than what actually happened...Everytime I think my parents are going to "freak" about something in my life...they surprise me and are supportive...
I will miss you...Have a good time...and you will...b/c you will be sober! Love Gina
