I have peripheral Neuropathy and am in continuous pain. one of the pain medications prescribed by my doctor is Oxycontin. I asked him about the addiction before starting on the medication. His response was that if I followed his instructions I would not become addicted. I take 20mg twice a day and have been taking this for over a year. I am concerned about the addiction but the medication does work for me and the prognosis of my disease is such tat I may be taking med for rest of my life.
your dr. should know not to say that it "won't" happen. anything is possible but as long as you are aware i think you should be ok. i have never had a problem myself but have known many people who have. if you feel youre becoming addicted, look up symtoms, read the many stories posted here. if a story hits close to home look more into it. you sound like a smart person by the concern you already show. im have confidence that you will do alright but if you ever need help, come here! ;)

As long as you're taking the prescribed dosages and the medicine is doing what it's supposed to be doing, there shouldn't be anything to worry. If you're worried about if you ever stop taking the medicine and cravings for the drug begin, then I would pose this scenario to your doctor now and see what he or she has to say.
