I know it doesn't sound like much to most of you but I made it thru day one and now on day 2. I did this with the help of prayer, lurking here ( you are all just the best), eating and keeping busy.
As many of you know from reading my past posts, I was consuming about a 5th per day or more and weaned down to half that for a few days before putting it down. I cleaned ALL alcohol from my home and although it doesn't sound like much, 1 day without it was a great accomplishment for me.
I am very small in stature. Only 5'5" and weigh 105 lbs. I don't want to turn one addiction into another but could use the lbs. I cut up a cantalope and every time I would have the urge, I would eat a couple of small pieces. I guess the sugar in it helps to satisfy. It was delish. I did eat other things too when I had the cravings. Fresh Vegies, Corn bread etc.
Since it was a weekend day, it was alot harder for me but I DID IT!.
Now, My goal is to not follow my usual routine and stop by the state store on my way home from work.
I know I can do this today (Monday) because if I can make it thru an entire day at home, I can make it from the time I get off from work til bedtime. I know the eveing will be harder but I am determined and have prayer and this website on my side.
I do have a couple of questions for you all.
1) Did any of you during the first days of sobriety find you could smell what smelled like old booze? I cleaned my house from top to bottom and can still smell that smell. Is it my smeller? LOL? I know there is not a trace of it anywhere in my house. I never left it laying around or spilled.
2) How long does it take to completely rid your body of the alcohol once you stop.
Sorry for such a long post. Just thought I would share.
I couldn't have made it thru the first day without the knowledge and support I have seen on this board.
Praying for a great and sober day 2 and pray that each of you will have the same.

Making it a day without booze is awesome! I remember how hard it was. What you're smelling could just be yourself. I know it sounds bad but all that poison is leaving your body thru your pores and yes, it smells. It will be gone tomorrow or so probably. Have you ever been near someone that has been drinking for any length of time? Remember how they smelled?

Hey Tremor congradulations on 1 day. today all i have in front of me is 1 day to stay clean and sober so everyday i wake up is day 1 in sobriety for me and after time the days just feel so good. Tremor go to AA meetings surround yourself with likeminded sober people. Don't keep saying that your post is not much because it is, it is a most important post to me because you are willing to go to any lengths to stop drinking.
Don't worry about the smells in time they will pass, when i stopped my mind became so focussed on booze that i could detect it at 100paces, and it is all around us at times tv, mags, sports, conversation etc. Give AA a really good go as it worked for me like the food did it helped me feel comfortable also the eye contact with someone with good sobriety is enormous because you can see the wellness in them. Keep posting Tremor and again good on ya

Congrats Tremor... 2 days is great, it's been two days for me as of right now as well. I'll try to stay strong if you will. Sending good vibes your way...
Tremor, 2 days is huge! Any day without drugs and alcohol is a victory! I never could smell myself because I wrecked my nasal passages by indulging in my other vice quite heavily, my sense of smell is no longer that keen. As far as alcohol leaving your system I don't think it takes that long at all...but I can't remember what the timeframe is...you're doing terrific!
1 day is a lot in fact 1 day - today is all any of us have.
yu have made a great start - pls try meetings - they really help me through that tough part of the day - my drinking time - in addition to all the other benefits.

Thanks To All of you and my faith, I am now on day 3. Thanks so much for the encouraging words and support. Day 2 was a little easier than I thought it would be. I didn't stop by the store on the way home but when I got home boy it was tough for about 30 min or so until I gave in and ate a bag of potato chips.
Best chips I've ever eaten LOL. Then I was ok. I will keep you posted.
Thanks again for all of your support. By the way, the smell is gone.

Way to go Tremor!! That is great! It should get easier now. It helps me to eat too, when i have a craving. If you have something in your belly, it seems like there's less room for the thought of alcohol. For me anyways, because i never ate when i drank, sometimes for a couple days at a time. Also, i never liked sweets too much until i was sober for awhile and then i started craving sugary things like skittles and stuff like that. You are doing sooo great and i'm so proud of you;)
Way to go Tremor, about the craving for sugar...well I use to crave it at a certain time of the evening, to be honest I still do, about the same time my buzz really started to kick in when I was using and drinking. The Big Book of AA says that it's a good idea for a recovering alcoholic to keep something sweet on hand (I'm just paraphasing). My body converted the alcohol into sugar I am told, so it was screaming for it a while into my sobriety, now it's just kind of tapping me on the shoulder in regard to it. So if you have a strong craving maybe eat a little something with sugar in it and pray; hopefully the craving will pass like it did for me.
Jayde, OMG, Skittles are my favorite candy...I've branched off to Hot Tamales, Dots and JuJu Bees. I like salt too (Lay's Regular Potato Chips), I've heard before that alcoholics like salt a lot, not sure if it is true.
Hope the both of you are doing well this evening.

OMG VW!!!!!!!! I LOVE HOT TAMALES!!!!!!!! I've been buying those big boxes of them and Runts! lol......i Love salt too, my H freaks out on how much i use, like Monday night we had chicken on the grill, and i couldn't finish my piece, so he was going to eat it, and he took a bite and spit it out because it had way too much salt on it! lol....i'm trying to cut down though because i know it's not good for me;) Hope you have a great day in SOCAL;)
Oh, Tremor, one of my life lines is WATER, WATER, and more WATER!!!!!!!
Oh, Tremor, one of my life lines is WATER, WATER, and more WATER!!!!!!!
Oh, VW....i forgot to mention Mike'N' Ikes!!!! LOL........gotta love 'em;)
Mike and Ikes I love those too, our local Market has a sale on those and Hot Tamales, the big sizes....in fact, I just ate a handful of Hot Tamales...do you guys have In and Out Burger Drive-Thrus where you live? My daugher and I just spent the evening with the gal I'm working with on the Program (she has been transferred to a Psychiatric hospital ~ it was good for my daughter to see what the disease of alcoholism can do up close and personal). Anyway, we just chowed down on burgers, fries and shakes...I'm sick now....lol!
Yeah...VW we have drive-thru's...ya mean like Macdonald's and Burger King? LOL........but it is 30 miles to the nearest town around me. We're sort of in the sticks, but yeah...you made me hungry;) We go once in awhile. But my son is going through a faze (very picky eater, no meat!) and he'll only eat Mac'n'cheese and PB&J sandwiches;) so we've been picnicing lately.
Boy i bet that was something for your daughter to see, (the girl in the hospital) what did she have to say about it? Scary stuff! How is she doing now?

I'm also into the bite-size candies, like Kit-Kats and Snickers...just had a handful of those! My daughters were like your son when they were little, in fact my oldest daughter who is 19 is still a picky eater, my 15 year old not so much anymore ~ she likes to eat healthy which is good for me since we live together.
My daughter has gone to AA meetings with me and seen some pretty "tore up" people...dt'ing, sobbing, shaking, etc in the rooms so I don't think it really scared her. However when she was talking to T (the gal I'm working with); T said to her if you keep on keepin' on the way you're doing your gonna end up here....and my daughter who thinks she's so unique said, "No, I won't, I'll never get that bad...", hmmm famous last words. I know she's on her own journey, and her father and I did not model the most appropriate behavior for her, so I'm not surprised she is doing what she is doing. Now I can share with her my experience, strength and hope, try to guide her to the best of my ability, then the rest is up to God.
