Well, Checkin' in to let you know that it can be done. Today, 11/22/05 I have two years of sobriety. I sit in gratitude and amazement because for an addict/alcoholic who was active in her disease for 28 years, well this is nothing short of a miracle. How I do it is by attending AA meetings and practice the 12 steps and 12 traditions of that program in all areas of my life. I have a conscious contact with God on a daily basis. I'm of service to others and take my disease very seriously, if I don't give what I have away today...I can't keep it. I truly believe that...I tried to get sober, stay sober, and could not do it for any length of time, and I tried various methods for about 20 years....for me this is the easier, softer way...don't get me wrong, life happens, but I just walk through it soberly, I trust God, I trust the process and I look at the obstacles that come my way as opportunity for growth. Pain, I believe, is the touchstone for growth. I am a different woman today, not only physically, but I am growing and healing mentally, emotionally, spiritually. I am no longer the broken, hopeless, desperate woman who wanted to check out of life just a short two years ago. With Humility, VWGirl

Hi Everyone, Thank you for your posts. I've been celebrating all week by taking cakes at my the meetings I attend. Here in SoCal we take a cake every day for seven days. They say the first birthday is for you, the rest of your birthdays are for the newcomer. My youngest daughter, my oldest daughter and my sister have all given me cakes at different meetings. I plan to go to an AA dance tonight and listen to some of my guy friends who formed a band called the "Resentments"...they play oldies tunes by Hendrix, Zeppelin, The Who, The Doors, etc, right out of my era and they rock and we dance and we do it all clean and sober. Tomorrow morning I'm going to the local Yacht club where they hold meetings and my boyfriend will be giving me a cake, he will have three years in January. So awesome...life is good...I'm facing my court battles, children's ups and downs, the holidays and am planning to move next month...but none of it is really all that big of deal like I use to make it. I stay sober not on my own will, but I turn it over to God and he takes away the obsession, cravings and struggle for me. Thank God I don't have to do it alone...there is strength in numbers and that is where I get my strength from the people in the fellowship of AA and working my program of action. Have a great weekend everyone.
