hi,
i think you should speak to your doctor again and ask him/her the questions you are asking here.part of the process of abusing prescription drugs is the fact that we try to be our own doctor. That get's us into a lot of trouble.I have no personal exp with methadone at all but others here have.

R u switching to Methadone to help you get off the darvs?
If so...NO!
Methadone works for many people to stay off of pain meds, or heroin ecct..but your really not on that high of a dose, or narcotic to go switching to methadone.
Methadone is the hardest opiate to get off of.
A VERY slow process when the time finally comes, probebly a year or more before you could get off.
Please, re-think your choice and talk with your doctor about it.
I was on Hydros....about 100mgs. per day and now that I'm off, suboxone does just fine and ALOT easier to get off, BY FAR!
I didn't even take my dose yesterday, that's how well I feel.
Good Luck!

I guess I should have read your post better.
If your planning a very short detox(3 weeks or less) on the methadone to get off of darv's....than that probebly wouldn't be so bad.
But, anything longer and your going to run into trouble.
You think w/ds from darv's are bad.
Try INDUCING that by a thousand, that's methadone withdrawl.
Good Luck!

Doug, I think the prior 3 replies missed the point of your question. I am pretty sure the methadone will replace the darvocet and you would feel next to nothing as far as w/d. Methadone is a good pain medicine for some people. It works well with some but not for everybody. I think when people talk bad about methadone, they are usually referring to methadone maintenance to get off of other opiates. There is a lot of bad things to say about that.
doug if your on darvocet for chronic pain and it's not working, methadone more than likely will help. Methadone is a long lasting pain reliever. It is also true it is the hardest to detox from speaking from personal expierence. Methadone is the only drug that helped my chronic pain for any period of time, your doc seems to be starting you at the right dose maybe you should try it for a short time, than weigh the pros and cons.
I couldnt figure out how to reply yesterday.SO I am back on today. And I have poeted another post.Sorry for the repeat.I have such bad pain, right now.Even the dose of Darvocet I took 3 hours ago, hasent helped. So, i still have that script of Methadone....
