I'm addicted to heroine and have been using regularly for quite sometime. A couple weeks ago my best friend Overdosed and died in my arms before tha paramedics arrived. I have no funds for a medical detox and wanted to know if anyone out there had any resources or suggestions for me to recieve the treatment I need? I want to be 100% drug free and I already tried both suboxone and methodone treatment in the past w/ no success...
Hi...sorry about your friend...Ive had a few pass on too...it hurts...well, dont know why you need a medical detox...I mean...you can kick without it...not fun...but it can be done...and it doesnt cost anything except your pride ...any family or other freind that could help with it ?...either that, or you can walk into a NA or AA meeting, there all free...and ask someone there ...salvation army is also free too I think...if you've done the sub and meth route then you know you could try it again...are you here in Europe with me ? or over in the States ?...
If your in the states- you can walk into a county medical center or county hospital. In whatever county you live in-
They will put you on a waiting list.- - It sometimes is a long list- but it might be worth it
If your not in the States- - I dont know-

Yes, I live in the United States... If I go to the County Hospital, what Department do I Check-In with and what should I mention-explain to them? I never attempted to do this before and I want to make sure that inquire with right Department and Individual to avoid blasting my story to the entire Hospital. Most importantly, I want tot make sure that I'm successful while attempting to do this because I really need and want the help! Thanks...
Let's just say, I have known people before in your situation...in my opinion...go to the emergency room. Tell the nurse in triage that you are in severe withdrawals. This is taken very seriously. They will prob give you ativan and a few other meds to calm your withdrawal symptoms....then ask for the social worker. That person will point you in the right direction. Best of luck to you brother. Remember, we are here if you need us. Just go to the hospital....Jax
If you do the hospital route, and from what I know you can go into any hospital they will make you wait so be patient. They also will try to get you some coverage through the state, local, county level...like in Jersey in the county I live in there is a program that covers 18-23 year olds for addiction. or use to be, my son took advantage of it and went through an out patient program for free.
Important thing about waiting lists, if you are put on one, call a couple times a day, give your name ask if a bed is open, be persistent because detox is like a revolving door, you might make that call at just the right time and bump yourself in. This happened to a friend of mine, I told him to call and call and call, and he was in in a few days compared to the month they told him.
And from detox, they should be able to hook you up with rehab, if not there is the salvation army treatment center which is a good program but you got to be detoxed before you go in.
Also dial 211, it is the united way and they will help as much as they can and point you in the right direction and to all available services in the state, area you live in.
And this link, find your state and it will bring up treatment centers...

Motivation and perseverance
Once you get over the initial shock of the death and the realisation that this is not what you want, I found it was hard to keep myself motivated all the time and trying to stay positive etc, I think it really helps if we ask ourselves WHY did we get into H in the first place, this may take us to some dark corners of our psyche, instead of treating the symptoms treat the cause,
METH I would stay a long way away from that, but thats just my opinion, good luck with what ever choice you make, (and I never called anyone brother or sister ??)

Please try to use the word methadone, or mdone instead of Meth- -That is a whole differnt drug and many people might mistake the slang for that other speed type drug- - which is dangerous ,has nothing to do with heroin or recovery.

>Con- you should know who is passionate about the language thing- patient vs client..etc..
I coped the link below from "The National Alliance of Avocates"- It explains why changing the language used, will help change the stigma- - Not just for patients in methadone treatment, but people who stuggle with all kinds of substance abuse issues.
