And it's totally freaking me out.
I am on 8mg / day (split 4 and 4) and it hasn't really stopped the cravings, it just makes me a little drowsy (and a lot of dry mouith). It's going on 3 weeks now, and I don't know what to do. Is it supposed to stop the obsessiveness/cravings entirely? I feel like the only reason I haven't been doing anything is because I know the suboxone binds more tightly to the receptors than other opiods so I wouldn't get high. I feel like such an a******. Is it possible that some peoples' receptors just can't be blocked? Is it possible that I'm psychologiically not letting it work? I just can't believe it. I have heard so many good things but I feel like the teeniest weeniest bit of relief and not much more. I don't know what to do... and it's not like a meeting is going to stop the craving part of things. There's a difference. But I still feel like i'm failing in some way and I don't like it. And I don't know what to do... (Posting on Sub board too). f***.
But I'm doing so many damn things to make this better and I wanted this to be the thing that stopped me from thinking about it all the time because that's what people says it does (including some of the people I trust the most in the world) and now I can't stop thinking about whether it's working or not. I'm making myself nuts. How can I have anxiety about suboxone, I mean, give me a break.
*Grumbling*
Hi Soul,
I've been on sub since 13th Sept last year. I started on 2mgs and it stopped the cravings instantly. Doesn't mean I didn't still wish to get high occaisionally. But as for actual cravings, no. Have you spoken to your sub doctor about this?

I've never takenit but I have never read anyone saying it isn't working..it has to be psychological or something..
Soulpicnic,
I don't know anything about sub but there is a forum on this site that deals specifically with Suboxone. Maybe someone there would be able to answer your questions. It's worth reading a little there anyway, since you're on it and it's not working for you anymore.
Good luck,
Gina

Well that's the thing. I don't even know if it was ever working. I have also only been on it for 3 weeks. My other question is - what do you guys mean by "cravings"? What do they feel like to you? Can someone (or a few people) explain what their cravings are like, because maybe I don't have cravings... maybe I just have some psychological obsession. I don't know.
And I definitely posted on the SUB board, but they don't get a ton of traffic usually.
I just don't know....

Hi SP....my personal experience has been a positive one. It took a while to get to the right dose. My feeling is is that you need to adjust your dose until you no longer have those "cravings". If you were at the right dose there would be no question as to if you were at the right dose. You would not take opiates because you would have no desire.....not because you knew that if you did they would have no effect.
It really is trial and error and only you can answer that question. That is perhaps why your Doctor has told you. In my opinion it is less than responsible for Doctors to just RX this med without a strong program. This has been my experience. Call your Doctor and be honest with him/her and tell him/her exactly what you have told us. I just don't think you are at the right dose yet. Don't forget everyone is different so we all can't be lumped into the same pile.
Now keep in mind Sub has been toted as a "miracle drug" by some, me personally I don't buy into that at all. Its merely a tool and you need to be doing other things coupled with the med to have a more likely hood of a positive result. What I mean is counseling and or meeting or an outpatient treatment program that deals with drug addiction.
I hope this helps...but congrats on taking the right steps in the right direction!

Sub definately took away all of the physical cravings. (your body wanting it)
8 mgs is a good size amount; but people have gone higher. The mental cravings took a little longer to go away; but they were sure lightened compared to going off ct.
I say talk to your doctor. Maybe a bit more will help; but most people lose the cravings.
Also, it takes time. Sub doesn't cure you; your body still has to do it's healing. That, however, does come.
Are you going to AA,NA, or therapy? Support is crucial; we shouldn't do this alone.

Thanks Kee kee.... so much.
Can you tell me what "cravings" feel/felt like for you?
Again, I'm just trying to supply myself with information to useas a reference point (even though I know we're all different).
:)

sp,
Don't feel alone sweetie .... Sub did nothing for my cravings either ..... and my wacko Sub Dr even told me to increase up to 32 mgs per day which is insane even though I was coming off insanely high amounts of opiates.
I tried every dose - up down and in between and it did not make any difference with cravings.
My cravings finally let up once I started going to meetings and working the steps with my sponsor.
Writing reading writing reading and more writing using the green & gold NA Step Working Guides really helped me a lot.
Plus I was utilizing a great support group thru NA .... and am so grateful cause without them dragging me to meetings when I did not feel like going and then out for fun after I know I would have struggled .... My "addict thinking" was to isolate as much as possible and not ask for help ... even just someone to talk to is help!! My supports refuse to let me go back to that old way of thinking .... even though I still try to .... LOL
Funny how those cravings went from a 9.9 down to a 1.5 ....
nothing to do with the Sub at all ....
only my own mind and what I was DOING for my recovery!!!!
For me not using was only a very very small part in a very large picture ....
Still a work in progress here ....
It keeps getting better every day .....
Swizzle - thank you.
And yes, I can't tell you all of the stuff I'm doing. Going to meetings, seeing a psychiatrist (for older and other stuff too), an addiction psyhiatrist, doing a DBT group for life and emotional mindfulness skills training and going to meetings.
I mean, I don't expect this to go away overnight. But f***. I just want this overwhelming obsessive need, want, desire to at least dissipate.
Just a little.

It will with time .... trust me!!
Being an addict with the "I want it now" mentality, I felt the same way!!
Just keep working on your recovery and know that it will get better each day, week, month, etc.

i tend to want to agree with kee kee's advice, you may need a higher dose..... i would call my sub dr, tomorrowand ask if the dose needs to be adjusted because you are craving.
what does a craving feel like? its a mental thing, you want it, you want it, YOU WANT IT! its like being on a diet and wanting that hot fudge sundae...wanting a cigarette... the need to mentally satisfy something.
you should not be craving to the point your miserable, i have had some cravings, only a few, i am on 8 mg. but they seem to pass as quickly as they came, especially if you can distract youself. call the doctor. jewels

Well jewls, that just about sums it up. I didn't know if I was crazy for thinking that that's what a craving was. Just this like obsessive wanting and scheming. I didn't know if, maybe I wasn't having "cravings" in some other definition of the word and that's why I didn't feel like the suboxone wasn't taking them away (because I wasn't actually having real cravings... I was having some Bridget version oF them that weren't like everyone else's). Ok, how crazy is that?
Sometimes I think my brain is going to explode.

Thanks...
