In Need Of Advice

Hi to anyone who reads this i've been visitng this site for around 6 months and actually doing real good as far as the addiction goes ie i'm on subutex anyway to cut along story short i've been thinking about going to NA but theres isn't one in the town i stay in(Falkirk) and the nearest one though not really far(Stirling) would cost me money i don't have just now as i'm a student and haven't recieved any payments yet my question is there are AA's in falkirk most days and nights but i don't know if i'd be wasting my time and theres by attending i know i should and probably will go along and explain myself i just thought i could get some idea of who-ever reads this's feelings any advice will be appreciated...paul
I just got back from an AA meeting and like three or four people talked and not one of them mentioned alcohol or drugs. They just talked about hitting rock bottom or "going back out there" and finding themselves back in their old behaviors, or whatever. I honestly don't know what their drug of choice is- alcohol or what.
I know one was way into coke, but he didn't mention it today.
At first, all we have to talk about is our drug use, since we have no recovery to share, other than the experience of kicking.
But once in recovery, it's easy to talk of that without even mentioning what you're recovering from.
It's really not that big a deal. I just say I'm an alcoholic when I introduce myself. A drug is a drug is a drug. I've been drunk before. Lots.
I go to hear the good stuff for free! As long as I go to meetings, I don't feel like using. It's that simple.

By the way, I'm a junkie. Or at least I was till two months ago.
Howdy,
I have been to NA AA CA GA and OA throughout my years of recovery although the only thing i abused was alcohol and food.

The drug of choice is different for all but the message of recovery
is still the same.

Hi folks thanks for the advice theres an open meeting tommorrow night in the neighbouring town i'm hoping to take a walk out there and observe i'll let youse know how it went . How you doin by the way todd thats another week under the belt mate , it gives me so much strength knowing other people that are winning their fights ...stay strong and stay in touch folks ...paul
Go for it mate, what have you got to lose...i go to NA and CA. They both work for me. NA cause i'm an addict, CA cause i'm an addict.....even though coke was not my DOC....all the best
It takes alot of guts to walk through those doors. It feels so great to know that you are not alone. I am glad you are going. Let us know how it goes. Also you do not have to say a word in the meetings. No one should ask you to speak. They will ask if it is anyones first time. If you want, you can raise your hand and introduce yourself. You don't have to say you're an addict or alcoholic.

Good luck!

I know it's not the same but there are live online meetings for people who can''t get to them. Women with kids or folks with other disabilities.
