Well I hope and pray your neice has an Ob-Gyn that is aware she is using methadone while pregnant. Also she is to inform the hospital when she arrives for delivery. They will give the baby medications to help with withdrawls and the baby should be okay from that anyway. I pray the baby is healthy in every other way.I have been taking pain pills on and off for years. I have 3 children and I quit cold turkey the day I found out I was pregnant. So I don't know exactly what they do to the baby but I know a few people that have talked about it and I know they will treat the baby. The hospitals deal with this all the time I am sure! Be sure she tells the doctors she has been taking methadone. Her baby will suffer if not treated.
Metahdone is some wicked sh*t. I know I was addicted to it for 2 1/2 years and detoxed from it in 2002. She may be very hapy and pleased using it now but she won't be when it's time to get off it. It is really hard to get off and very painful. Wishing her and her baby all the best! Rae

Hi My5, it is very important that all the Drs and other health care staff are informed of her Methadone maintenance so she is adequately monitored throughout. A small amount of the methadone crosses the placenta from the mother to the baby so the baby will need treatment, withdrawals generally only last a few days in most cases. Good luck to you and your niece.
Hi,My friend gave birth to a baby while she was taking methadone, and yes She deffo needs to make sure that the docs are aware of her situation, My friends baby was kept in for about a week while the docs monitored him and withdrew him from methadone, its not very plesent at all but it can be delt with and the baby should be ok, again make sure she tells the docs when she goes in to have the baby.
