Information About Addiction Medications

Recent genetic studies and technologies have improved our ability to monitor brain activity and have enabled a greater understanding of how the addictive brain behaves. These efforts have made it possible to develop more effective medications for treating addictions. To learn more about these medications, see Alcoholism

Medications are used as a part of a professionally directed drug and alcohol treatment program in conjunction with a support system such as a 12 step program and holistic approaches such as amino acid supplementation designed to reduce cravings for alcohol and drugs. To learn more, see nutrition in the holistic approaches section of the Addiction Recovery Guide.
The approach I've been taking is something like Cognizant Recovery, which involves a professional shrink, meds, and counselling. The choice to attend AA was my own--and the best decision I made.
