did anyone see intervention on Monday? It was about a man in his 30's assicted to alcohol. very, very sad, he died just a few weeks after the rehab kicked him out for not "taking it serious"
Hi, Angela99. I don't know your story or your station. I presume that, because you're posting on the Alcohol portion of this board that you are (at least in some way) considering recovery from the chains of alcoholism.
I have learned (after trying EVERY OTHER COURSE OF ACTION) through the meetings and working The Program of Alcoholics Anonymous, of which this site has not affiliation, that if I stay in AA long enough I'm going to have to learn how to step over the bodies. There's nothing I can do to make someone think what I think; There's no control I have over another human being to make them save themselves. None. For those that believe they can, and are addicted to that reasoning, there's a program out there for them, too. It's called AlAnon.
This disease is nasty and ruthless. Selfish people get more selfish; Depressed people get more depressed; Suicidal people 'teach us a lesson' everyday; and on and on--because THEY believe THEY know what's best for their situation (disease) and they'll try any easier softer way. They can not. And some of them die. And the pshrinks and 'fixers' and 'counselors' and family members scratch their heads and wail of the 'unfairness' and remorse of not being able to do more.
This disease is cunning, baffling, and powerful. It's a disease that tells me I don't have one. It's out in the parking lot right now doing push-ups in the event I drop my guard. It'll kill me, all the while telling me I don't need friends or family or a job or a spirit or a reason. Just drink. Screw everyone, everything, everyness. Just drink.
For those who want to fart around with recovery methods, keep in mind that ALL "sanitariums" called alcoholic treatment centers empty out into AA. The ones that want to recover stay and the others cycle around again. I see it every day.
The Program of AA--the Big Book---has been in place since the late '30s and saved hundreds of thousands of dying souls who want it. Others keep trying for that easier, softer way so they don't have to face themselves or 'The God Thing' and, in the end, they end up FACING their God anyway...
:)
It's sad, but there are people who would rather be dead than fixed.
