I have just found out my 16 year old son has been smoking canabis. He has spent about 2500 in the last 5 months. We have talked it through and he says he will never do it again. He now has a bad cold and has just gone to bed saying he is cold. Is this the effect of stopping smoking? Please advise us....
melsy, I just admitted my son of 25 years into detox center hes smoked cannibis to crack to meth leads to other addiction seen him 3 days clean head cold probaly has nothing to do with the withdrawel since cannibis is not phiscally addicting
Unfortunately cannabis is addicting and it sounds like your son could be addicted and need help. There is alot of information on this web site under Treatment Options (see top tool bar) which has a special section on Youth Services.
Good Luck

I disagree about the physically addictive comment, it can be in many people, it depends on the person and the amount and potency of the cannabis. He could be having withdrawal and thats his bodys way of kickin it out, you do go thru nervousness, sleep deprivation, lack of appetite, irritability etc......go to marijuana-anonymous.org for all kinds of info or meetings in your area. They have a pamphlet on there about the symptoms....Good luck JB
oh yes it is addicting. And it DOES lead to other drugs. Along with lieing, stealing, you name it. My son started smoking pot when he was 13 years old. He is now 21 and has done every drug there is. He just attempted suicide because he is so sick of using drugs. You and your son need help. Dont be stupid, get him help now before he gets himself in deeper.
Marijuana is absolutely addicting, both physically and mentally. Long term effects are very severe. Most people will tell you that it does not cause any "problems." My ex-boyfriend recently suffered an aneurysm and the neurologist working with him feels that there is a direct causal relationship between his medical problems and his long term pot smoking (over 10 years, evey day usage).
Get your son help while he still is under your control. I could not offer the help that my ex-boyfriend needed. It was above and beyond anything that a unskilled individual could offer.
Good Luck!

I know for a fact it is not physically addicting it is mentaly though but thats all about will power and cannabis does not lead to other drugs curiosity leads to other drugs I know tons of people who havent done another drug in there life they just smoke it and dont bother with nothing else again its all about will power and if your son spent that much on some weed he probably didnt quit but the only thing that i can think of weed leading to is the refrigerator
Will power helps a drug user.Once a person gets addicted changes happen in the brain so that treatment is needed in addition to will power.
