Is This Normal??

This is my day# 3 and I feel pretty rough. The past 2 days I have felt great but today I feel very sluggish, tired, achy and feverish. I also have some bloating and slight ache in my back on the right side below my rib cage. Any idea if stopping drinking is causing this? If so, any ideas of what I can do to remedy this? I felt so great on days 1 & 2 but today is pretty bad.

Hi Tremor,

Hang in there. Sorry you are not feeling good. It definately sounds like you are going through DT's. Hang in there it will get better. Drink orange juice, at least that helped with me. You should go on WebMD and type in your symptoms. I'm not a doctor but that website can really be informative. The sluggish feeling and sweats is definately detox. you will be okay just ride it out.

Peace and Sobriety
Thanks Val,
I don't think it as severe enought to actually call it DT's. I made a cup of hot tea and that helped. I do have sweats but only at night. No shakes as I am on Buspar. Other than the feeling just worn out, achy and a little feverish and the pain in my right side that comes and goes, I keep telling myself it is a good day.
I thought that once I was off the alcohol I would be full of energy and ready to take on the world but not today. Maybe, (just maybe) the sluggishness is from all of the extra food I've been craming in my body to keep from drinking.
I also thought that once I quit drinking the night sweats would stop. They seem worse than ever. The shaking in the mornings however is not near as bad as when I was drinking.Strange???
Hope you're having a great day.

Hey Tremor,
Everyone detoxes differently but it also depends on how much you were drinking. The sugar cravings come from all the sugar that is in alcohol. I was eating candy like some crazy person when I quit the booze. I also started to get a headache after about 4 days. In the back of my head. You'll get through it. Did you know also that women don't metabolize alcohol the way men do? My doctor told me that. Women hold on to it longer while men metabolize it much faster. That is why I have had pancreatitus 4 times. Hang in there and you will be just fine.

Peace and sobriety,

Valarie
Hey Tremor the pain in your side is probably your liver saying jesus were not swimming in alcohol i think i'll try and repair myself now you beauty. Hang in there alcohol just deadened your body and mind you are just waking up from the fog treat yourself to a massage but allow 2 days quiet after this as the body feels like a train has hit it as toxins leave the system. Keep up the good work

Light and love Zac
Thanks Zac and Val,
I am trying very hard not to eat sweets. I was told that in eating sweets while recovering makes you more likely to relapse as your body sees both alcohol and sweets as sugar. So, the closest thing I have had to sugar is cantelope, 2 small bags of potato chips. I put 1/2 teaspoon of sugar in my 1 cup of coffee in the mornings too. How long will the night sweats last? They are so much worse than when I was drinking. I have to change my night shirt every night around 2:00am as I am soaked. Did anyone ever have tingling in the mouth or tongue with detoxing? It feels like my body, while in some ways is beginning to feel like it's old self, is falling apart in others. LOL.
Thanks so much for all who post for me.

Tremor, I've never heard of sugar causing a relapse, but hey anything is possible (as I just finished off some Hot Tamales and bite size Kit Kats ~ LOL!) The night sweats lasted a little while for me, longer than I thought they would...those are normal during detox...that was a good idea from Zac about the massage...I did that...and it was so nice to pamper myself like that and also help the elimination process along. I shook like a leaf off and on during the first 30 days or more of my sobriety. They poured my coffee for me at the early morning meeting...your pain in your right upper quadrant is probably your liver doing the Tuna, it is starting to heal...for me that took awhile to go away...but my liver enzymes are normal again...and it is an organ that regenerates itself I am told. Valarie mentioned you may be having the DTs, and she is probably right...however, you are not experiencing the full blown DTs (seizures and hallucinations)...I didn't have them full blown either...but it was bad enough that I know that it is easier to stay sober, than to get sober.

Hi good job on 3 days. Look one thing Icommented on in my last few attempts at recovery including this time is how very much longer it took for me to bounce back and get my old energy levels back. In fact I'm at 10 days and nowhere close to my old energy levels - though definately better than when I was drinking.

I think with each binge we just wear our bodies out that much more - be patient I think the energy will slowly come back with time.

Also, I found that eating chocolate helped with the cravings. Alcohol is full of sugar and so we are suffering a sugar imbalance in our bodies. I found that eating a lot of chocolate in the first week and gradually lessening the amount over this 10 days has really helped me. I think of it as like using a nicotine patch to quit smoking - same principle.
I was told a long time ago by an old AA that a spoon of honey will help with the withdrawals. Like someone said already, our bodies don't recognize the difference between booze and sugar because booze turns into sugar or something like that sooo our bodies think we are giving it alcohol. If you are craving, get some honey instead of a bottle. It will help.
