Today is my ONE YEAR Anniversary of sobriety! My sponsor (who has stated that he should be worshipped and revered as my Higher Power as coming to him was the best thing I ever did--joke) had to remind me that I couldn't have a 365-day chip because this was a leap year and that I actually had 366 days. I AM, in fact, quite spesh-shul, unique, and different in EVERY way! LOL
Thanks to MY Higher Power, YOU people, MY sponsor, THE Program, and Progress, not Perfection, I am now, officially, a heavy metal carrier! YAAYY!!! LMfAO
And THAT is how it FEELS to have one year of 24s under my belt. NOW I can get on with the process of "Practicing these principles in all my affairs," and my spiritual journey.
I'll share this, then I'll shut up: I was driving to work this morning and I'm listening to "Creed: Higher" as about 70Decibels (yes, headbanger me) because I absolutely LOVE the song. If it wasn't intended to be about ME and MY HP, then they need to rename it.... OH! And wood ducks--the guys with the green rings around their necks? And Canadian Geese (who are apparently playing hookey this year)? And a blue bird! And...And... and...
Have a magic, sober day. You have my permission!
WOW WOW WOW! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! . Of course it's all about you. For today anyway lol. From now on April 24th will be a national holiday known as st. skgs day lol. Once again Congrats,I am sure you did your HP and sponsor proud. A very COOL thing!
((((((Shane))))))
Congratulations! Time sure flies when you're having fun, huh?

Thanks, all, for the thoughts. I picked up my token--now I can get on with it! Those last three months are sock-gnawers!
My sponsor, to be adorned and worshipped, revered and revelled, gave me a 1935 (year AA was established) Silver Dollar with one very small hole drilled in it. He said to give it back to him next year (providing I stay sober) and he'd put another in it. The value of said dollar will dimish in currency value, but the value of the coin will continue to grow so long as I work the program.
OR I can use it to buy my first drink on my next drunk--but likely they wouldn't take it and it might just give me enough pause to consider the consequences of something so foolish.
So there you have it. My entire year of recovery neatly encapsulated in the forum records for anybody who give a crap to see the journey. If you're gonna publish it you'll need my permission, but I think it's worth far more if I just give it away to select individuals... ~grin~ Hopeless alcoholics...
Thanks again, everyone. I couldn't have done it without every single one of you. So, rather than reply to a bunch of different posts, just know that all of you have some, as Zac might say, gratitude on account. :)

What a cool idea the coin thing is. I started doing that with my one year medallion but stopped after about 2 holes. I wonder where it is? Hmmmmm
Shane,
Congratulations on 1 year of not only sobriety, but real change of the soul and spirit!
Interesting the 1935 Silver Peace Dollar was terminated that year; the US stopped minting them. Each time you look at the coin, may it represent two things. One I will not drink today, two as it provides myself with peace.
Can you take me higher? You certainly sound like your on a big natural high now. I'm not sure you can hear the claps of your standing ovation. Provided by your HP, Sponsor, Family and Friends. You must have great speakers in that Hybrid of yours.
Really what else can I say, but thank you for being a 12 step zealot here. You have taught me much and inspired me tremendously. You are my favorite brat, you know besides me that is.
Enjoy today and celebrate with your family and friends tonight with your favorite meal, or any other ways that make you feel super ecstatic! How wonderful it is that your endocrine and digestive system also applaud you for doing the next right thing.
Have a wonderful 1 year celebration!!!
Love,
Chris xxx

Thank god that year is over as the excitment was too hard to handle even this far away in NZ and i still can remember our first little posting experience and the journey since then has been one of a deepening for me in regards to self awareness and also gratitude in regards to watching you open and bloom in the eternal spring of recovery.
You deserve to feel good and nothing wrong with a bit of bangin music except my foot gets heavier on the accelerator when the music is good
What that year has done is supplied you with a strong foundation on which to build your recovery and like the 3 little pigs there will be some tests of the building at times and in no way am i sugesting that you are a little pig or that i want you to squeal like a pig (Burt Reynolds best movie by the way) LMAO

Congratulations Skg. I've been working away from home for a few days and it's nice to come back here and see such a positive message of hope. I'm so pleased for you. I feel I've come to know how much this all means to you, not just for the obvious reasons but also the deeper ones that have to do with wanting to find and express the real you. I am grateful for your generousity in sharing your experience, strength and hope. The real you is something to behold.
Here's my hand, handshake or high five, to celebrate such a very happy day...so many happy days....one day at a time and all shining.

Thanks for the props. Time to get on with growth--these last three months have appeared to have dragged on endlessly. Seems when I set long-term goals, the terms get LONG. :) Expectations.
