hi janet
guess what? we have a nest of baby bunnies in our backyard, i have been so protective of them so that the dogs dont kill them, i have a fence around them that still allows mommy to come nurse them. i have been reading an article on line about bunny birth etc.interesting.. mommy does not want to bring attention to the nest to predators so she only feeds them once every 24 hours and she comes from midnight to 5:00 am to feed them, covers them back up and leaves.
so i had to check to see if they are being fed, the article assured me human scent will not bother mommy and it said to even pick them up and move the nest no more than 10 feet if they were in harms way!
so i go and lift up the material she has covering them and out pop 5 babies hopping in all directions! omg! i frantically chase them and 2 got away, i am so sad, so as i was able to pick up the other three, one bunny screeched in fear as i picked it up, i comforted it and it stopped crying, i put all 3 back in the nest covered them back up and it appears that mommy did come back to nurse them. i had to make sure they were being fed and not abandoned as i thought my raking near their nest a week ago may have scared mommy away. damn when will i learn to not be so curious about nature? mommy duck is under my deck sitting on eggs, i believe they are the same buuny and duck that choose the same sites to nest each year.
i just hope and pray those babies all make it out safely before my dogs get them!
you never know what day or time they are gonna decide to leave.
what happened to your baby bunnies? mine look exactly like yours but smaller. jewels
Morning Jewels. Our bunnies are doing great. I go and pick them dinner twice a day. Here's the site I read about them http://www.2ndchance.info/bunnies.htm
We pick them up at night and pet them, I hope that we can domesticate them a bit.
I hope that your lost bunnies find their way home, or survive alone. According to that website they can be on their own very young.
