hey all
i just wanted to know for my own thoughts. how many of the addicts on this board are children of addicts, alcoholics, etc. i was just wondering because my father was an alcoholic and his father before him, all my uncles on his and my moms side all drinked heavily, and my mom used to give me paragoric (sp) when i was young. don't really know what this is but i found out it is, or used to be, a narcotic formally used for children with colic, kinda the way codiene used to be in over the counter cough syrup. so if you will please respond

GOOD MORNING JOHNNY....Hope you are feeling good today.As far as your question.My dad was what you could call a weekend alcoholic,every weekend he hit the bars.My moms dad was a alcholic.But he was a good moddle class family man so as far as being abusive no.I think I just posted something about all of us as children if we were over medicated as children.I've heard of paragoric.....mj

Hey Atoz.........great question. My dad was weekend alcholic as well, though it was never acknowledged. He was one of 7 sons, and 3 of the other brothers were full-blown raging alcoholics. So is my brother. It is a family, thing, huh?

My parents were not alcoholics, but my grandfather and ALL of my uncles were..... I'm cherokee Indian and it has been proven that Indians have a gene that make them more susceptible to alcoholism.... I wonder if that includes addiction?

My father anf brother are alcoholics, I swore Id never be one, Im a pill addict instead. Must be in my genes.

atoz, you know i often wondered this ? myself but ill never find out, see i was adopted with no trail to follow so my biological parents i cant answer for now my adoptive parents were buisness owners and had the "cocktail" parties and card nites but i really dont remember any problems. also im an only child, or am i?????? i wish i could find out my background, its frustrating at times not knowing who i am.
