Just for today...here are a few suggestions if you are still struggling...try to get to an AA meeting (you can find a listing of all meetings online)...go with an open mind ~ it may be the best gift you have ever given yourself. Remember nothing changes if nothing changes.
Think it through ~ what will happen if I drink? It is the first drinkthat gets you drunk...strive for the goal of hitting the pillow sober tonight. Miracles happen ~ they are working in my life day in and day out. Also, remember to try and stay in today, take it one day at a time. Yesterday is history and tomorrow is a mystery! Sober2Day, What I interpret an "open" mind to be is not a "closed" one...I try not to attend meetings with preconceived notions of how things should be, I try to look for the similiarities and not the differences, I take what I can take from the mtg and leave the rest behind and I pray that I am not judgmental....I popped in out of the rooms for over 20 years always with ideas of how different I was from everyone else and how I thought things should be...now I go with an open mind and most importantly willingness and acceptance. How did I develop an open mind, I didn't ~ my Higher Power provided me with his grace and I believe finally opened my mind, as well as my eyes and ears too! Thanks for your reply I enjoy reading your posts your comprehension and outlook on things as they are is really refreshing for an old fart like me.
Its true your Higher Power helped open your mind but you put in the footwork and became willing to listen.
I also heard once if you judge people you dont have time to love them and if we love them we seem to listen to them a whole lot more.
Reflecting back now I remember someone saying once, to get and open mind try and listen to the last word of all those who share because if your listening for the last word you have to listen to everything they say.
