Hey, I just switched to methadone from subutex (buprenorphine) two weeks ago today. I was on 32 mg of subutex for a year and a half, and while it did help for a while, its efficacy was dropping fast. I started at the methadone clinic, and the dr. started me out on 20 - 30 mg. That was fine to start, but its been two weeks now, and I only just today got moved up to 50 mg. I was actually going through withdrawal over the weekend. But, even when I'm not going through outright withdrawal, by early afternoon (I take my dose by 6 am) I feel totally strung out. I'm so agitated and restless and craving. I really want to stick with it cause during the time that the methadone is working I feel better than I have in 10 years, well before I was really addicted, it helps me in ways that no antidepressant or anxiety meds have ever gotten close. Any advice on how to keep with it, or more importantly, get the clinic to speed up my dose increases?
Hi Aschill,
I'm sorry,I missed your post.
I have not been on subutex, but I have been on methadone, for many years now.It is what worked for me and once you get on the dose that is right for you it can really make a big difference in every aspect of your life. First and foremost,no more heroin use. That in itself is a biggy especially when you are at your wits end and there seems like theres no way out.
Just follow the clinic rules,go to counseling and if need be attend meetings such as NA or AA. Get all the support you can from the right kind of people and slowly but surely you will see changes in your life. The good kind.
Keep coming back.

Good luck with the methadone. That was harder for me to quit than the herion. Dont get me wrong the done helped me change alot about my life but detoxing of it was hard. What they dont tell you is that stays in your bone marrow and is hard to detox from. But it can be done and i know its been 7 months and i feel good body wise. My minds f***ed but this to shall pass. Try a good treatment place do research.
