Does Cymbalta cause weight gain,constipation, or sexual side effects? Elavil does.Any info. greatly appreciated...Sharonn

Hi Sharron! I haven't talked to you in a while... good to see you here! I started cymbalta a month ago. I have heard that it will not cause weight gain like the others... i haven't had any problems with constipation... and as for the sexual side effects... well, i don't have much of a drive lately but i don't think it's from the cymbalta... i think it mostly stems from being exhausted from work. It's like, when i go to bed... it's time for sleep... lol! Good luck with it... but try not to ever forget a dose... i stopped taking it for a few days and the depression was terrible.... the mood swings were bad. Good luck and hope this helps some. Liz or Pam will come along soon... they have been on it longer than me.

Sharonn, it has not caused weight gain for me but I have read where it has for others. It did give me diarrhea when I took it during the day so that is why i take it at night now. Also, NO it cause no side effects to your sex drive. It makes mine better than ever........woooooo hooooo

I haven't had problems with cymbalta either. Only if you miss doses then it causes some problems. But no side effects at all...

Sharonn, it is a little pricey. It runs me about 150 bucks a month.

Nope, no weight gain and out of all the anti depressants I've taken through the years I have to say this one has been the best. Good luck to you.
Just always remember to take it. lol

Your doctor should be able to tell you that, but what is elavil?

An old tricyclic anti-depressant used for fibro...lots of side effects.

Sharonn, I took both of them together but check with your doctor. I just did what my husband told me to do and he was probably trying to kill me....lol

Really, I don't think you have to wait on starting it after you stop the Elavil. I c/t the Serzone and went straight to Cymbalta. No probs at all...
