Looking In From The Outside

I have an ex-wife that has alcohol and other problems. I really would like to understand alcoholism; but I find it difficult to relate. I guess the real problem arises out of the fact that we have children togehter. At times we share them but in the last year I have had them the majority of the time. I would prefer to have the children full time because, as I see it, she only ever goes for treatment when she is required to in order maintain her licence to practice medicine. Therefore; she is not going because she feels she needs help, she goes because she has to. I would like to know what the success rate for someone who is required to receive treatment is? I do not mean to sound harsh, but her lifestyle wreaks havoc in the children's lives.

Sincerely,

Dean
Dean,
It is extremely difficult for a non-addict to fully understand the insanity of addiction. The Big Book of AA is a great place to start. Although it was written years ago the stories haven't changed in 70+ years. The closer you can get to understanding the more you will be able to recognize the signs. Good Luck
Dean,
Have you ever thought of trying Al-Anon....just a suggestion...

take care
gina :)
Hi Dean I agree with Gina maybe Al-Anon would be able to help you with this there phone number would be in your local phone directory.

Or type Al-Anon into your curser .Otherwise go to www.googel.com And type in Al-Anon and take it from there. You should be able to make contact.

Dean unless youre an alcoholic it would be very hard to try an understand one. One alcoholic can have an affect on at least 16 people immediately around them .
Its like you described we are sometimes like a tornado roaring through the lives of those around us. And its the people we love the most we seem to affect or hurt.
But there is hope I am living proof of that.
Again could I suggest you contact Al-anon.
God Bless?
