An AA acquaintance who recently gave birth is going through PTS. She has 10 years sobriety from alcohol and was told that if she goes on any kind of prescription medication, that she will have broken her sobriety. Somewhere in the Big Book it talks briefly about situations where sober people might need medication for one or more reasons and it's ok, it doesn't qualify anything about losing sobriety.
HELP . . . does anyone know where this passage appears in the Big Book?
not sure where it is in the Big Book, maybe the dr's opinion. I know that it is in the NA Basic Text and it states that it is not a relapse if the dr is prescribing for a legitimate medical condition.
I'm sure someone with more time in the program can pop in and tell you.
I wish they would put an Index in the books so this stuff was easier to find...

it really annoys me that peopler are concerned about taking legitimate medications for legitimate problems because of the myth spread by individuals.
Going on an antidepressant is NOT a break in sobriety.
