Low Cost Treatment

Another mom with an addicted son. 26 year old heroin addict...using heroin for over five years, other drugs since 16. He is currently homless and has been unemployed for the past few years. Has a pending felony for breaking into our home so now he wants help (again) but has no insurance. Has anybody had success with any Lowcost/no cost rehabs? Thanks.....
Any rehab will work if he wants it. No rehab will work if he doesn't .

Commitment to The 12 Steps of NA/AA will keep him clean/sober.
It has for me for 26 yrs.

Does he attend NA meetings? He'd better.

Rehab isn't the answer, it is a bare beginning.

Don't you look into recovery for him... have him do the homework and make the calls.

All the best.

Dear Runawaytrain,

I echo what Papa Bear says. I might add a few points or add some emphasis:

The NA and AA programs work, for those who work the program.

Often an early barrier to getting into recovery is the detox process. Many communities offer low-cost detox. This may help, but only if the addict gets into a recovery program. I suggest 90 meetings in the first 90 days of recovery.

For you, I strongly suggest a family support program such as NAR Anon or Al Anon. Addiction is a family disease. Please don't try to handle this on your own - there are many of us who found a better way to live. You are no use to your addicted loved one, unless your are as healthy as possible.

I hope this helps and good luck. -Flyboy

My daughter will be getting out of detox in a few days, the has no car to get to the aa meeting should I drive her to a meeting or is that being an enabler?
