I had an incident with my doctor a month ago and was told not to come back. I have chronic shoulder pain, extremely bad. It has been ripped apart, dislocated, etc. The doctor insulted my wife repetedely.
Anyway, no I am going cold turkey from Methadone and Morphine after more than a year. The shoulder pain is TERRIBLE- But not as bad as the withdrawals.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. There are no other pain specialists around here, and I am screwed now.
Hey Highlander. You'll be OK in time. Take hot baths, exercise as much as possible as this speeds the process up exponentially, eat as light and healthy as possible and in my opinion, don't take one otc med. Most people take otc's and that's perfectly fine but in my experience the less synthetics you put in your body, especially when it's in shock, the faster and better you'll heal. Drink an obscene amount of water and either exercise or take a sauna of steambath. The best thing you can do is sweat as much as possible with a ridiculous amount of agua. For your own piece of mind, you might want to call a doctor or nurse tomorrow. They'll most likely tell you to treat it as a bad flu. Replace fluids and replace electrolytes. Gatorade is great for that and make sure you get some salt which you'll get plenty from a can of Campbell's chicken broth or regular chicken soup. There's enough sodium in one can to give most adults high blood pressure in one serving. You'll be OK, it sucks now but everyday is better than the last, except for day 1 and 2. Big difference at day 4.
G-d bless you and take care of yourself.
BTW call in sick to work tomorrow and the rest of the week if possible.

Thanks. I already drink an obscene amount of water, but the trips to the bathroom kill me. My legs are the worst right now.
I'll try everything and see what I can do. I have my kids this week, I'll sweat plenty, LOL.

Hi Highlander, welcome to the board. Many, many of the people here are experienced with exactly what you are going thru. You came to the right place. Do you want to get off of the meds or do you want to find another doctor? Your doctor is morally obligated to refer you to someone else who can assist you. Pain is intensified when you are going thru WD. Any doctor can help you taper off of the meds, they need not be a specialist. Go to the ER if you have to. Explain your situation. I do not know the details of your situation, but you may be someone who could greatly benefit from suboxone. How can I help? Atlas
When do the kids come? If it's tomorrow or the next day I would hire a babysitter or get a buddy or family member to assist. If my wife wasn't around for me during that time, it would have been an unimaginably futile task. You're not alone. I'll repeat, you're not alone.
I have my wife here with me, so that helps a lot.
I may end up in the ER if I need to. I am unsure what I will do for the pain later. I really had no intention of getting off the methadone, only the morphine because it doesnt help much.
I may get a reference, but very few doctors around here will prescribe methadone. Last time I tried calling the office, they hung up on me when they found out who it was. Thats really annoying since they were in the wrong to begin with. My wife just had a gastric bypass a month ago, and that was what the doc was insulting her about, her weight. She wasnt there, but he still had no right to talk the way he did. And yet somehow I am the one suffering. Doesnt seem right.
Thanks for the help all. I started standing by the heater fully dressed drinking water and it helped. I just come back to the PC every now and then.

Hi there,
You are so lucky to have found this website. There are so many people here who have been where you are right now...not that youd wish it upon anyone, but it helps to know others havebeen there.
Im almost in the same boat as you, have a medical codition that causes severe bone pain ( SEVERE) but was kidding myself that I only took the meds for the pain. I was using them as well to give me motivation, energy to get things done, reached for them when i was grief stricken. Now I am weaning off of them, but still have to deal with the fact I do have bone pain.
I have no idea what I will be able to do for the pain later. Believe it or not it took great pursuading toget me to even take these damn pills and now of course I wish I had stuck to my better instincts.
Anyway, I do have many friends that have come off of pain pills and this board is full of great people that can talk you through the w/d/ portion. As uncomfortable as it is..the w/d do stop ( or so they tell me lol ) Hang ON!!!
Im rooting for you...
Hugs,
Ali

I didn't realize it was methadone. I thought it was oxys as I had just wrote to someone about w/d to oxys. I apologize as I have no clue about methadone w/d. My advice is to contact a doctor immediately, it can't hurt. It'll work out, just take it easy and let the time pass.
Thanks Ali. I have read a lot of the posts and kind of feel less bad, some of the doses people came off of would kill me, LOL.
I am a little lucky, however. Because of my wifes surgery, she has some liquid hydrocodone that I take a teaspoon of before work to help there. I was real lucky to find this board, actually. I was searching for some help on WEBMD and ended up here, thanfully.
I started overloading with water an hour ago, and it helps. I usually drink 2-3 bottles of water an hour. I have had 8 so far in the last 45 minutes. I hope you have some good luck with your pain too. My wife has back pain and she was lucky enough that she got to work down from Oxycontin slowly, so she didnt have W?D's.
Good luck to you too!!

Thank you all for the help. I am real surprised I feel this good this soon. One problem, I cant sleep, at all. I get maybe 30-45 minutes a day. I am always wide awake, no big deal. Just wondering if anyone else had tha problem, and how long it lasted. I have a cass this week I have to make, and I would like to sleep before I do!!
