Methadone Detox

My Daughter is on Methadone hears voices, to harm herself, is very confused and cant seem to think clearly. How can I find a rehab to help with the withdrawels who will except her if she has Medi-cal?
Loving welcome Sky .... so sorry that addiction has infected your life....so glad you found us .... a group of parents, siblings, significant others who love addicts .... we understand. (We also have recovering/recovered addicts that provide great insight, perspective & advice.) Sending big hugs!

Med-Cal? It sounds like you are on the West Coast. I'm on the East. So right there I can't help with specific program suggestions. But there is a tab here, called Programs & Resources, that may be helpful. Look at the top of the page.

One thing jumps out at me, Sky... it sounds like she is schizophrenic and/or has other mental health challenges, in addition to addiction. I've never heard that hearing voices was a side effect of methadone; nor have I heard that it's part of heroin withdrawal; Hearing voices is a tell tale symptom of schizophrenia, though. Has she been evaluated? Have y'all considered a dual diagnosis program? One that would treat both her addiction and her mental health issues.

More importantly, are you safe? I hope none of her voices are saying you need to be harmed. Do what you have to do to guarantee your safety. Put locks on your bedroom door so she can't get in while you sleep. Get out of the house all knives, guns, etc. I may sound dramatic. But I am worried that her mental illness may make her unpredictable.

Keep coming back for support, encouragement, advice, hugs or to ask questions. Please let us know how you & she are doing.

I agree with Lynn. Methadone is used short term as a detox medication and also long term for maintenance for opiate addiction. Methadone doesn't cause one to hear voices or act confused. Perhaps she is abusing other drugs (methamphetamine abuse and PCP can cause psychosis and auditory hallucinations (aka "voices").

However, hearing voices is the hallmark of schizophrenia. It is most common for this illness to appear in lthe teenage years into the early to mid twenties, though it can appear at virtually any time.

I believe Medi-Cal is the California version of Medicaid, which is insurance coverage for the indigent and disabled. She should have a card and there should be a phone number on the back for mental health and addiction services. They will be able to find a place that will take state aid as payment.

When she is evaluated, they may not want to wean her off the methadone if she is using it responsibly to help her with an opioid addiction. The process of detox, while not usually life threatening, can put a strain on the body and mind. They may want to get any psychiatric illnesses identified and treated before they even entertain taking her off methadone.

Keep us posted on what you find out. Sending good thoughts your way!
