Looking for some helpful advice on how to help my son give up cannabis and Valium. I am so frightened for him and don't know how to help him stop. He has also made reference to harming himself. I took him to hospital on an acute occasion but sadly the did not admit him. Help please.

Unfortunately you can't really rely on the metal health system.
Your son is very young and hopefully becuause of his age maybe it will be easier to help him,
Sometimes mental illness goes undiagnosed unless you become psychotic an hear voices.
He is probably self medicating in order to escape the reality and his suffering.
This is a painful journey for you as a mother.
Please do not forget that you have to also seek support for yourself by finding the right groups.
You will meet other parents who go trhourhg the same things as you.
If you have the means even seek therapy for yourself so that you know how to handle him the right way.
I think that maybe the best thing is to find him a good therapist if he is open to it.
Of course sometimes money helps in this cases. Maybe insurance will also cover this. Not sure since I do not love in the US. If this is where you live.
Be it psychiatirc issues or addcition, the entourge can't do much unless and if the person concerned wants to be helped.
