I just read a Rollingstone interview with Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance..
"A few years ago, Gerard Way says, he was a dead man walking, racked by cocaine and alcohol addictions that helped the shy kid face the public. But his problems caught up with him, and he got seriously ill while on tour in Japan in 2004. The My Chemical Romance singer has since kicked those habits, revitalizing his New Jersey quintet and making one of teh best rock records of 2006, The Black Parade..."
He is asked "If The Black Parade could inspire an social or musical movement, what would you like that to be?" to which he said "I don't want people to be afraid of living, which I think is everybody's biggest fear."

Reading the reference now, I guess it is a little lame. But at the moment I read his interview I guess I was struck by a couple of things- That I must indeed be afraid on some level of just plain old living. Why else would I spend so much time so numbed out? And second..maybe my fears that dope makes me creative are ill-founded. He's just an example of someone who has produced their best when sober. I don't know. I don't mean to put him out as anyone extraordinary. He just looked admirable from my vantage. Happy Holidays Davey.
