I just recently had only my second mamogram ever.I know its quite common to ask for additional imaging. They find things, see things, usually,in most cases nothing to worry about. So i have to go for an ultrsound on Friday.
The thing that does bother me though is...the dr had given me a physical breast exam prior to the mamo,i was told i needed a physical exam as well as the ultra sound.I told them i had just had the physical exam, why would i need another. They said they would speak to the dr and see, maybe it wouldnt me neccesary.Well they just called back and said due to the findings of the mamo, another phyiscal exam is called for.
Now that makes me worry?Anybody out there with any experience/knowledge as to why they would need "another" physical exam of the breast.Wouldnt the ultrasound be enough? I dont understand it.
Im not getting too worried, not yet anyway. Thanks for letting me blab,im just hoping someone knows the answer to my question?~KIM
It most probably a cyst and it's nothing to worry about. I am thinking about Thumper's thread with hers. I have had several of them, the first was removed and was benign...most of them are. Hopefully Thump will come on and give you some more info.
I take Evening Primrose Oil, a supplement, it has helped to keep me from having those lumps.

I dont understand the physical exam part but please try not to worry. As you know, these tests are so common and usually there is nothing serious. All doctors have different procedures. If you are really worried, give the doctor a call and see if you can have the test done sooner - like tomorrow. Waiting for a test or its results is so nerve wracking.......
Kim...I also gota little freaked out over a second exam...I had an ultrasound and they found a lump that looks benign(I have a history of fibroadenomas) Yesterday I had my first breast MRI instead..I worry about the results but it is more diagnostic for women with breast implants. Don't worry...they are just being extra ccareful not to miss anything. That is a good thing. I always think if the worst case scenario arises...at least it was ccaught early. I am alive today because I had a second opinion about a colonoscopy. Keep us posted. Love, Sharonn
Is this a boob thread? If it is it's worthless without pictures.
/just kidding, I hope everything is ok.
//ok. back to my corner.

Kim,
Please don't let a second exam or additional imaging freak you out. Since you only have one other mammogram to compare to, it sounds like they are just being extra careful because they dont have a history. As we age, breast tissue changes and depending on the time of the month other changes occur, thats why its important to do that monthly exam (or have our husbands do it or I think Hawk was willing to travel to do it for us <smile>) . And, as uncomfortable as they are, those yearly mammograms will show a history of any ongoing changes. Think positive and dont let your mind go to bad places. Sending thoughts and prayers.

Kim, my wife went through the same thing a few months back, she had a benign cyst removed and everything was ok. From what I understand it usualy nothing to worry about.
Thank you all so much, youre all so kind.
Hawk,i know you were trying to cheer me up.Truthfully,im not too worried, just wondering why they call for the second physical exam?
I'll keep you posted, thanks for the support.Im sure its nothing, and im glad theyre being cautious.Take care~KIM

ditto what everyone else has said. I've had 2 second looks, and both were just "shadows" on the film. It will be OK, we'll all keep you in our prayers.

hi honey, i posted on the goos this morning that i didnt know of your situtation, shantel directed me to your post.
It IS so scary for any woman to be told she has to come back for a second mammo or exam, and it seems most all of us have had to do that.. 90 percent of all requested returns are to be on the safe side to check what usually is some sort of cyst. i had to return for a 2nd mammo once, here i am up to the machine and she takes black magic marker and starts making all these lines on my breast! the x ray is up on the light thingy and i can see it hanging there, 3 circles like a cluster of grapes! i thought to myself this it it julie.... nope! cystic breasts! they come and they go! also have had to have ultrasounds on those lumps too, they were always concerned as my breasts USED to be very dense and they were concerned that maybe they could miss something in all that densisty. try not to worry honey, i know its easy for me to say that. we are all here for you in cyberspace and prayer. jewels
