My friend was clean for 70 days and then relapsed, she used meth and heroin with homeless people. Then went to detox and went back out again to use. Her family set up and intervention and I went. It didn't go well at all, no emotion was showed by her at all. Next day she told me were no longer friends and it's over. Been fighting with her since and now she's back home were the addiction started. She's hanging out with all the same people she used to use with idk if they are still using though. She passed a drug test yesterday but her urine is still brown and has been for weeks now. She's going to meetings sometimes but not all the time.. Is a relapse going to happen ? Can I prepare myself for that ?
Dear Phil,
My guess is either "maybe" or "probably". Relapses in early recovery are very common. If someone gets to the 1 year mark, then their odds of finding long-term sobriety are much higher.
As you probably know, there isn't much you can do. In Al Anon and NAR Anon, the first step is to learn we are powerless over someone else's addiction.
You are a good person to care about this person and be part of the intervention. If you have not already considered it, you might try Al Anon or NAR Anon. This will help you be on a firm foundation in your relationship with the addict - whether using or not.

She struggles a lot and ik I'm powerless it just sucks to watch. Something I did notice though is that when she's in early recovery she seems more angry.. Nd we fight more. If you can't get high do you tend to be more angry ?
