Need Advice For My Sis

I got my sub filled today. Dr. kept my dosage the same, but is giving me the 8mg pills to save money. The pharmacy accidently gave me 5 extra pills (40mg.). My sister wants to get clean, but can't seem to do it. She has no money or insurance or car or sub doctor in her area. I would like to use my extra sub to help her get clean. I was thinking like a 10 day sub detox at my house with me giving her the sub. I would make her sever all ties with her connections and inform her doctors and pharmacy.

My questions are:
1. Is there a downside to this plan that I am not seeing?
2. Has anyone done a fast detox like this?
3.What should her dosing schedule be?
4. How would a person expect to feel after a fast sub detox?

She is taking vicodin, perc, and methodone in varying amounts. Usually as much as she can get her hands on. Many times she has expressed a sincere desire to quit, but has not been able to do it on her own for more than a couple of days.

BTW...We started using together. I sincerely believe that if it weren't for my big bank account supplying her with the drugs for so long she wouldn't be half as bad as she is now. Now I am clean with the help of sub and she is still using. I am sick with guilt. I would just pay for her to see the sub Dr., but the nearest one is 3 hours from where she lives and she has no way to get there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, especially if anyone has done a fast detox with sub. Thanks, Atlas
Hi atlas... i am glad you want to help your sis get clean. Kudos to you for that! But, in my honest opinion, if i were in your situation, i would send her to the sub dr if that is the route she wants to go. I know you want to help her and you probably feel very strong in your recovery... but you don't want the temptation there, know what i mean? Just looking out for you... let me know how it goes. I will be on later... gotta watch the kiddos, but like i said i would really consider taking her to the sub dr instead of taking on the situation by yourself.

Love and God Bless,Bri :)
Thanks Bri, but that is not an option. She lives 3 hours from the nearest sub Dr. and 2 hours away from me. She has no car and I work constantly and cannot transport her. I cannot pay for her to go inpatient, my hubby would freak out and not allow that to happen. I just don't see any other options besides paying for her to go to a methadone clinic. And I have serious issues with paying to provide her with methadone. I feel her addiction would get worse. I feel so guilty. I don't know what else to do.
Well im no dr. I did a dr sponsored 26 day sub detox. Started at 16mgs a day, but slowly, the fisrt day was a1mg shot, then 4 hrs later 4mgs sub then at bed time 4mgs more

Am 8mg sub, lunch 4 and bed 4, do this for 2 days then start cutting very fast.

Im off the sub for 2 days plus. I have wds but its managemable. Im gonna make it. I cant believe it. Im very happy

atlas,

I know where you are coming from and it's a crappy feeling there!! I am sorry for you and her & will keep both of you in my prayers!!

Big problem & HUGE red flag that jumped at me reading your top post above - - she is taking various pills, including methadone!!
Methadone is VERY different from other stuff when it comes to Sub induction - mostly cause of it's long half-life. Much of what you are doing with Sub, would be done differently for a person coming off Methadone.
I am assuming you are on Suboxone??
Those coming off m'done should always use Subutex, NOT Suboxone!
Just one example, and there is much more.

Basically, I am saying that you do not know enough about Sub to detox a person safely.
Your heart is in the right place, but I'm sure you would be crushed if you did this and something bad happened to her!!

I hope you & her can find an option that works.....
Is she willing to do ANYTHING it takes to get off the drugs??
If not, nothing you do will help anyway....
If yes, I have faith that it will work out....

Best of luck!!

:-)

Swizzle

Thank you Swizzle. I didn't know about the methadone. I talked to her and it has been over 3 weeks since she had methadone. Right now she's on percs and vicodin. She is going thru PTSD also. I just want to help. I love her so much and feel so guilty. I just don't see any other options. She really has the desire to quit, but she has nobody to help her besides me, and I am 2 hours away with an insane work schedule. Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Atlas:(
Does she get the pills from a Doctor or "other" sources??
Why does she take them?? Legit pain or just the high??

Maybe have a heart-to-heart with your hubby to see if he'd agree to assist with $$ for the in-patient detox?? If he loves you, I would hope that he would agree since it's your sister and very important to you.....

There are also state detox places that take those without money or insurance

What state is she in?? (If you don't want to say, I'd understand)
I might be able to find some info for you, but would need to know where she's at
