IM A METHADONE PATIENT AND WHEN I READ THE POSTINGS ON THE BOARD, I READ ALOT OF PEOPLE ABUSE METHADONE, AND THE DOSE IS SO HIGH, CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW YOU CAN ABUSE METHADONE? I DON'T GET HIGH FROM IT, SO WHY ABUSE IT? THANKS SUSAN.
well abusing methadone is like abusing heroin. i'm a heroin addict, and it takes alot to get high(i've been using too long) but if i take a 20mg or 40 mg pill of meth, i'm buzzed. i have used methadone when i couldn't get the h. i think it really depends on your tolerance and if you are on it as a detox/maintence program. sorry i can't be of much help, try on the heroin board. there are several people on meth or that were on it.

I think methadone is what you make it. For me, it was a last resort. But it did what it was supposed to: curb cravings and block receptors long enough to establish some stability. I've been on it for 4 yrs straight this time and have had some slips with coke, but as you know, methadone does not help with any other drugs 'cept opiates. For a long while I abused it. It got worse than my heroin prob. I was injecting around 600mg a day. It got very expensive and the withdrawals were far worse than h. I always made it a point to go to clinics that dispensed the liquid form or koolaid, as we call it here in the south.
In truth, all forms of methadone can be injected if you know the tricks. But for god's sake don't start!!!! (if that's what you were thinking) I've had many friends od on it and most of them passed away. It's nothing to f*** around with; it's a powerful drug.
But that's my experience with it. Six months ago I went in to get detoxed off it but was discharged on a higher dose than what I went in on. I am now at a very low dose (45) and am trying to be done by X-mas. It's hard. It doesn't hold me at all and physically I feel bad all the time. But it's gotta be done. Least it's better than cold turkey.

agree.. think it's all in how it's used and injected. whether it be pills or powder to snort smoke needles etc.. it's not worth the loss and i agree if you're thinking of using in another way it's Not worth the gain ... a momentary euporhic feeling you will feel that will make nothing as enjoyable or satisfactory again in this life.. you'll lose it all ..
