Need Help

Needing help with my sons addiction . Ive just found out my 25 yr old son is addicted to morphine. Its my understanding hes taking 30 mg three times a day, says he doesn't have a problem ,just his way of dealing with stress.Hes losing weight ,doesn't sleep, very angry at everyone. Can anyone tell me if he can stop this on his own, he says he will, but question if a person can quit on their own.Any help would be appreciated. Only reason ive found out about this is his girlfriend confided in us she found him passed out a couple times lately, just fell on the floor after using.
Hi Farmall - every addict tells themselves and everybody around them, they dont have a problem- they can stop anytime - they can do it by themselves - very few people manage to quit on their own - NOBODY quits until they admit they have a problem- your son needs to realise this - but that is the first major step any addict must take, and therefore one of the hardest- admiting we have a problem and then asking for help - ONLY he can decide to do this- nobody can solve an addicts problem only when we want to quit will we make the necessary effort......it's hard work quitting and even harder staying clean - but it can be done- there is no road map for recovery, everybody is different and addiction is a complex disease. we must find what works for us, Narcotics Anonymous, Rehab, residential / outpatient treatment centres- Addiction counsellors- there is a wide range of help available but no matter what route each addict choses the first move has to be admiting the problem exists - Remember we addicts are great liars and manipulators we will use everybody and everything to satisfy our cravings for drugs when we are in active addiction - action speak louder than words- i hopr your son faces his problem sooner rather than later - wishing you all the best -
