Sorry you haven't had any responses in the last 2 hours Karen. I think some people tend to be a little stuck in their own world. Or have other priorites on this board!
Anyway, this is what I would do. I would call his doctor and talk to him.
You have enough to deal with. Your an addict, your husband is an addict and now your son. You all need to concentrate on yourselves for a while and focus on getting clean.
However, I know for a mother that would be hard. Your son has been on methadone for 5 years. I don't think his doctor will just cut him off because you called about the benzo's he is taking. Especially if the doctor is writing both of the scripts. I would express your concern to the doctor about the medication your son is taking and then leave it alone.
Your right, mixing the two drugs together can be fatal. I know a 17 year old that died of an overdose last year from methadone and xanax. Hopefully your son stops before it's too late.

Karen,
Yes, call the doctor and tell them your concerns. Tell them that your husband is very concerned too, but that his concern seemed to manifest as anger. You would feel much worse if you stood by and did nothing, and he OD'ed and died, than you will if he gets cut off. They would probably taper him down first and not just cut him off cold turkey.

Hi Karen...your son needs medical treatment...its just that simple...or he will die. He is an adult is he not!!! How can either of you call his doctor and speak with him about his issues? Just wondering? I wouldn't worry about him getting cut off...I would worry about him dying....will he go to an in patient treatment facility? He needs it....these drugs are very serious..look what happened just a few months ago to Anna Nicoles son.....it could happen that quickly!
