Thanks for any info....
I had one done and it didn't seem to do anything, gave me relief for 3 days. I had surgery.
This time I have had cortisone injections in my neck once a week for the past 3 weeks...so far doesn't seem to be helping...but I'm praying for a miracle.

DJ,
I am one of the ones that suffer from chronic back pain, but so afraid of having back surgery, I did epadurals, nerve blocks...they worked for me.....right now I am seeing a chiropractor who seems ot be helping...my MIL had to talk me into seeing him, but I am glad I am...
When I have a really bad flare up and can't walk I get a toradol shot..except last time it was so bad my dr. also gave me a demerol shot w/ it.
Hope that helps abit.

Thanks guys.I have tried to stay out of the ER.They give me Toradol and demeral also. But i haven't went in for that for a couple months now.Not that i couldn't have used it..I am currently doing PT, but that isn't helping.
We have talked about the blocks, so i'll have to go in to see a pain mang. Dr to have it done. I just hope something will work soon.
Janet,
Did surgery help?

for about 4 years or so...I had surgery on C5, 6 & 7 now I have a bone spur on 4 & 5 that was one piece and has cracked in half...
I know nothing about nerve blockers...but I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am that you are going through this. Man I can't imagine...and Janet what you just described sent shivers all over my body!
Praying that you guys get some relief from that.

OUCH Janet.....
One thing that scares me about surgery is that thery would be working around my siatic nerve.and I would be 41 in a wheel chair..................I am scared chitless to say the least, besides my dr. says if I do have surgery, I would probably need another in 4 or 5 years.....

I'll tell you though, I am glad that I had the myleogram and found out what was wrong...luckily my disks are only partially compressed....the bone spur space looks almost like the space between your vertabrae, except it lays on top of the bones...
I can feel the bones rubbing together when I move certain ways...now that's kind of gross...and my neck kind of locks for a sec when I turn my head quickly a certain way...

Hi there
i just had my first one yesterday...
It was a subcutaneous injection and they leave this hose attached..like the ivs you get in the hospital...but you walk around with this baby bottle that is attached..mine had lidocaine in it which is in a bladder of sorts inside the bottle.., but some people get them with anti inflammatory as well..
The pain Dr told me it isnt so much the lidocaine working as its going in ( which took 8 hours) but the lasting effect it has on your nerve bundles...has a long lasting effect that sort of numbs them so any pain signals to the brain are somewhat dulled...for up to 8 weeks
I asked why dental anesthetic ( also lidocaine) doesn work in the same manner and he said because it isnt the same quantity....
He said there was only a 25% chance it would work for my kind of bone pain but figured it was worth a go...no changes yet For some it is the magic cure theyve searched for and completely works for their pain...
the only side effect i had was while i was waiting for the med to go in, i woud have terrible adrenaline rushes and palpitations, feeling shaky and anxious, and a terrible taste of metal in my mouth
i toughed it out though so i will at least know whether or not this is something that can work for me during tough times...'
Hope that helps..
Hugs
Ali
PS You have to take out the little butterfly needle yourself...,mine was by my neck....and easy to remove..they also gave me a cap that would stop the flow if i needed a break from the side effects...

Oh..forgot to tell you what i just found that helps my back..
My back aches one week a month...( collective groan from the guys..)
and lately so badly tat i have to grab the side of the mattress to pull myself to my side...
I just bought those heat packs..they come in a box of two for different areas of the body and for the back in small and large..get the large cause it covers more of your back....
They are made of a comfy bandage with little heats pockets, and Velcro around your waist...
THEY WORK SO WELL!!!!!
Slept last night without any pain whatsoever....the heat is supposed to last for 8 hours but mine lasted more like 10....
Try those for sure!
Good luck
