Hello everybody...I've never done this before, so please bear with me. I'm in my mid 40's and struggling with my drinking. The past 2 years have meant a relocation to a new state, unemployment, financial debt, much stress, lonliness in new surroundings......and oh yes, ....drinking. I did join a church a year ago (for the 1st time in 32 years) and haven't missed a service yet! However, I often try to stop drinking and fail on each attempt. I have tried a church support group which was sporadic and not successful. I cannot afford treatment and am obviously trying to explore any options that might help. I guess the purpose of this is simply to see if 'anybody is out there' and can offer any support (again, I've never done this before). I wish all of you the best and hope to hear back. Thank you very much!
Welcome Boris...there is help here, plenty of addicts to talk to, share with, and learn from...
My advice, go to AA, get a sponsor, work the 12 steps, and stay posting here...
an addict is an addict no matter what the addiction is.
Keep coming back and God bless you!

Hi Boris.
First of all welcome to the room. My name is Lionel I am a recovering alcoholic. The thing with alcoholism is that its a cunning, baffling and powerful disease. Its a disease that tells you, you dont have it. No matter how bad things are going it tells you things will be different next time.
That I cant be and alcoholic and alcoholic is that bum lying in the park or on the sidewalk. Its a disease of denial .Alcoholism is also a disease of the Mind Body and Soul it affects us mentally, spiritually and physically.
And a phycologist may be able to help with the mental side. A priest or pastor etc. with the spiritual side and a doctor with the physical side. But the thing is we or I need to treat all sides of the disease and what has been my experience is that for me (I am only talking about me.) Alcoholics Anonymous has been the only thing to be able to do that. Treat all sides of the disease. All the others may help.
I know that alcohol is a great remover for some people like me not all people .It removes pay packets. It removes jobs .It removes homes, families, cars. It removes all self-worth and dignity on an on.
The good thing though there is HOPE there is a better life waiting to be had as soon as we stop believing the liar this disease (Alcohol) is telling us. I know that because I am living that life today a life free from the bondage of self. I am doing things today that once I only dreamed of.
So give your self a chance look up Alcoholics Anonymous the number would be in your local phone book talk to someone find out where there may be a meeting near you. Go along to a meeting, there are no strangers in AA just people we havent met yet.
In the rooms you will see the word God but it is a God of your own understanding AA is not a religious organisation its a Spiritual one. If you are Alcoholic and sick and tiered of being sick and tiered Alcoholics Anonymous may be able to help you. If not the bars, bottle shops and clubs will still be there and all the misery waiting.
Keep posting to this site let us know how things are if I can help in anyway just let me know.
God Bless LionelC

Hi Boris- I read your post and want you to know that you will definitely find support here. I agree, you might try AA meetings. There you will find many recovering alcoholics and I have never been to a meeting that made me uncomfortable. While you are there, see if you can borrow an AA book ("The Big Book"). Even as a recovering addict, I find this book very helpful. Turn to the stories in the back. They are very inspirational and you will relate to some of them as I did. You can also get a sponsor to call when you feel like drinking or just if you need to talk. If you are considering rehab- there should be a state funded rehab somewhere. If you are from TX, I can tell you about a couple of good ones. The rehab I went to was absolutely free bc the state paid for it and I didn't have insurance. God Bless and keep posting! It's good to have you here!:)
