New Here

Hey everyone,

New to to forum. How does everyonefight off their cravings for h? I find it so difficult. I'm on suboxone at the moment but it doesn't take the cravings away. please help

I'm five weeks clean from a heroin habit. I didn't go the sub route. Just quit.
I can't say it hasn't been difficult, just now starting to feel some better.

I considered suboxone but decided against it. I was told it took the cravings away... Reading your post, I'm glad I skipped it.

For me, the cravings pass almost as quickly as they come. I just got it in my head that heroin damn near killed me, so it's not even an option to go back at this point.

That H stole my money, my health, my senses, my pride and about everything.

But about a year ago I was also five weeks clean from H and singing this same tune. I lasted about seven months.

I'm going for a new record this time around.

I'm going to NA meetings and that helps. So does this board. Hang around and you'll see. Some of these people have true answers for our disease.

Best of luck.
Mark
Maybe your dose needs adjusting, sinead.

Lots of people are as addicted to the fixing as they are to the drug....the cooking, the tying off, the needle, the shooting, all of it. Talk to your doctor and couselor and be as honest as you can. Also, try some Omega3 capsules, some serious exercise (yoga's a good choice), and maybe an NA meeting, ever been?

Peace ~ M&M

PS Mark, good for you, keep it up.
Hey,

Yeah I have tried NA Meetings and it did help but then I just found that it was repetitive every week and I wasn't getting much out of it. I live to write in forums like these - it helps me alot.

I know what you mean about being addicted to the preparation of the drug - I miss that.

I'm trying to stay strong, I really am. I have 3 dealers that live 5 minutes away from me so its really hard. I'm starting college at the end of August so I hope that that takes my mind of things.

Thanks for the support guys, I really appreciate it.

I hear you about the repetitive nature of meetings if you go to one regularly.
I'm lucky because there are about four different NA meetings within a comfortable drive from here and another dozen if you don't mind a long drive.

Many more AA meetings, which I've attended regularly as well.
So, I mix it up somewhat.
Besides, there are things that are repetitive in these meetings that are repetitive for a reason.
I'm an addict and I know I tend to forget some of those things that are repeated if I go too long between meetings.

(There's a lot of stuff to remember)!!

Excellent point, Mark =) Not for nothing are all those easy-to-remember slogans...

And the AA thing, good advice. My daughter goes only to AA now because she found there seemed to be longer and stronger recovery in them than in NA...lots of warstorying in NA was what she said.

Sinead, the fixing is kinda repetitive, too...dontcha think?
Yeah the fixing is definitely repetitive. I think that I am addicted to doing things that I know I shouldn't be doing. Like just going to the dealers house gives me a buzz. It's kind of pathetic.
Wish something like swimming would give me a buzz! :)
I find that there are people in the rooms that have a kind of glow about them. Folks with three years clean, five years, twenty years. Not all, but some of them have something I want.
I don't know if it's confidence or inner peace or what, but that's the buzz I want!

I can even see it in some people that post on this board. You can just sense it by reading their words.

Have you ever felt that in a meeting?

We're always gonna have access to dope. Even if you move. I found that out the hard way when I moved to Texas once. You just gotta get out of the habit of going and scoring and cooking and shooting.

And, by the way, just sitting in on NA meetings is good therapy for a while, but if you really want to get control of your disease, you need to get a book and a sponsor and work the program. It's worked for millions.
Some can just quit forever without any program.
It appears I'm not one of them.
It appears you're not either.
