well i am starting detox off methadone today.I have been in the clinic for 6 weeks on 70mg, to get off 2 grams of heroin a day, which i was on for 7 months. I know that it is very very likely i will feel s***ty, hoever can anyone give me like some sort of a time frame? I am the type of person that need a time frame for most everything,makes me do better. I am getting off methadone cold turkey and i only took 1/2 my normal dose this morning and already i am feeling a little panicy,i know this is normal. I need some support my boyfriend of 6 yrs is not around and he is a junkie also,has been for 10 years and i have seen him detox off methadone and heroin a ton of times, however when he detoxed off methadone he went on subonxne after of course 2 days of high heroin use(he is an a*****) anyways i am starting a new life and i just needed a little helping hand in this, i have been on anthor forum for opiate addiction and recovery but the people are all on pills, and they are not really trying to look at some junkie-lol, anyway i am prolly babbling now but i really can't fall asleep and was hoping that someone out there is awake and can comment to me to make me feel like i am not all alone, i certainly never want to use dope again-the tracks on my arms still are there and have not even healed all the way yet, it is something that really bothers me, and i do not want to use heroin again, nor do i want to be on methadone,i hate that sh** it has caused me alot of pain, my family don't uinderstand it and i feel guilty as i feel it is a replecement drug, and i have no freedom almost like not having any freedom on dope, only i never got high off it, usually i am sick by 10am and i have to be at the clinic by then, and i refused to go up in dose . oh yea has anyoine tried the thomas reciepe? i was just wondering becaus ei bought all of the vit,and minerals and benzo's so i can try to make myself a little bit comterable. anyone have any other suggestions? oh i almost forgot a friend brought me 6 1/2 's of suboxone which were the 8mg ones - i know i have to bve like 36 hrs completly off methadone and in full withdrawl, however once i tried to detox off heroin on it and it sent me into the worst w/vd i have ever seen, i was told maybe because eother i tookm it too soon ,or i took too mach any one with any comments on thast? someoone please respond

welcome jen........i dont have much info to give you concerning methadone detox...i went to rehab and detoxed from 40mg down and then the next 50 dys in detox was made comfortable wiht other drugs, but supervised.........there r lots of great ppl here who can help you.so keep posting.........If you want this you canhave it......and no need to feel ashamed of anything here..........we have all been there, some still are, but we r all here just to help each other and try ot get and keep clean............i will pray for you........God bless
This info is from my partner.....apparently detoxing from methadone is harder than from heroin. The withdrawels are allot more intense but you should be feeling better after 5-6 days the 2nd week you will feel allot of difference and you should be back to normal within 3-4 weeks. Drink plenty of water, eat little and often, take your vitimins and most of all stay away from the gear!!!
You have done well so far. If all fails then get suboxone or subitex to help you, then decrease your dose of that till your finally clean.
This aint gonna be easy but with willpower, strength and positive thoughts you can do this.

i'm no expert on anything about meth but i'm told it's a heavier withdrawl than heroin and lasts a bit longer. Hopw all goes well, you sound like a strong person. Keep the Faith, Kev
I got up to 130mg of methadone "totally over medicated" i got in a spot I HAD TO detox in like 2 months. I was homeless could not afford the methadone + a apartment. So I started going down 10mg A week which ya know they tell ya 2mg. I had no time to detox proper it was winter it was cold out i needed to find a place. I started detox in October out mid december. Stoped going at 30mg. THE single most horrible withdraw i've ever had. It was so so so much worse then H withdraw. I did not sleep for like 2 MONTHS would cry on the floor call begging my granny for valuim. Many a days I don't know how i kept from getting H. HONEST NO LIE withdraw was 2 whole months of feeling like crap all the time. Then i got pregnant nearing the end of the methadone withdraw so i spent my 1st year off in pretty rottin shape.
My advice "don't rush it" if you can help it. I really wish I had stayed on detoxed proper i'm two years clean still get really bad cravings. Or I wish i had never started methadone kicking it was a whole friggin TON harder then going cold turkey stoping H. I do thank the methadone helped don't know if i'ld be clean without it. Methadone I HEAR is more effective when your a newer user. Meaning it tends to be less effective for a long term addict. I had used H lil over 3 years my brother more like 8 years methadone was never enough for him to kick his habit. The only other long addict i know who used about 11 years has stayed clean on methadone 85mg but, been on it about 5 years.
