i am taking 6 nurofen plus a day, thats about 72mg of codeine phosphate. i came off subutex after 16 yrs on methodone last october and had about 2 weeks clean when a doctor gave me co-proxomal for backache. went from them to the nurofen. i am seeing a drugs counsellor who has helped me cut down from 12 a day and keep them 4 hourly instead of just throwing em down my throat when i feel like it. im also going to na. my problem is i really feel withdrawals in the morning when i wake up and when i try to go as long as i can between taking them. i would really welcome any advice. there is another site i go on which is really good but i thought i may get some extra help here.

I too am addicted to nurofen plus. I have been using for 5 years, I have put up post under jane for more info on my story.
I think you are doing really well. Try to see an understanding doctor ( you may need to go through a few before you find one) or see if your drug rehab can point you in the right direction. I have been advised to do this also as we are addicted to the codein not the imburofen in nurofen plus and it is this imburofen that is harming our bodies. Your doctor should be able to perscribe you something that does not contain the imburofen but you are still getting the codein hit and therfore can cut down and wean off without continuing to harm your body.
I also get the withdrawals first thing in the morning, I put this down to the fact we have just slept for around 8 hours or more without taking anything.
It is my very first thought every morning . i am only just taking the very first steps to weaning off, at present I take up to 60 tablets a day.
Stay strong and keep posting, I am finding it really helpful to speak to others who have the same problem as for most of us it is our little secret. For me I am ashamed and therefore dont want those close to me to know as what they may think of me.
